ATELIER JOURNAL — 01
Something that existed only in my head is becoming real.
I’ve been rather quiet here for the past months. Not because I stopped creating, but because most of my work has been happening behind the scenes.
And this is one of the things I’ve been working on.
These photographs came from Rens, the maker I’m working with on the brass pieces for what will become the Signature Bookmark of Aurelia Legacy Atelier.
Seeing them like this… unfinished, straight from the workshop — made me ridiculously happy. 🙂
I had an idea for a bookmark. I knew the proportions I wanted, the weight, the simplicity of the shape, the brass, the way I eventually wanted to engrave it. But knowing what you want and actually developing a physical object are two very different things.
There have been conversations about cutting, corners, brushing, fingerprints, oxidation, wax, patina… things I honestly hadn’t thought much about when I first drew the idea.
I’m learning as we go.
One thing I particularly love is that the making doesn’t end here. Rens is creating the brass pieces, but when they arrive in my atelier, another part of the process begins. Each one will pass through my hands to be engraved individually.
Perhaps this is why these workshop photographs mean so much to me.
They aren’t beautiful finished-product photographs.
They are the before.
And one day I think I’ll be very glad I kept them.
So I’m starting something new here too:
Atelier Journal — small glimpses into what I’m making, learning, getting wrong, changing my mind about, and slowly building behind Aurelia.
This feels like a good place to begin.🖤✨
