Kavanaghs Pub

Kavanaghs Pub This pub is the highest village pub in Ireland and has been in the family for over 50 years. Sean T.

Roundwood is on the main route between Dublin and Glendalough in the Wicklow Mountains, making it an ideal stop-off point for travellers between the capital and Glendalough's monastic village. At 238 metres above sea level, it is one of the highest villages in Ireland. The village has a close association with two former Presidents of Ireland. O'Kelly, Ireland's second President, who held the offic

e between 1945 and 1959, lived locally. Erskine Childers was elected Ireland's fourth President in 1973 but died the following year. He is buried in the nearby Church of Ireland Derralossary churchyard. In 1962 the 34th President of the United States of America, Dwight D. Eisenhower partook of a bottle of Coke here on his visit to Ireland. Scenes from the television series 'Bracken' starring Gabriel Byrne were also shot here in the Pub during the 1970's. In 1996 the film titled 'The Nephew' was made here in the pub starring Pierce Brosnan amongst other well known Irish actors.
