The last Friday of every month Downses pub plays host to the Waterford Vinyl Players Association.Which is an open decks night which invites people from all walks of life to play their best of music.

The needle has been lifted off the last vinyl, the dustcovers have been replaced and another is safely stowed away for another month. See you all again on Friday, June 26th.

If you threw a 7" frisbee into the throng on Friday night you were sure to have it returned by a past, present and, no doubt, future vinyl player. It was great to see so many familiar faces in attendance. We're delighted that everyone is embracing the association part of WVPA. Long may the vinyl community last.

What we did on our holidays - part 2

You didn't think we'd forget to check out a few record shops on our hols. When next in Liverpool make sure you have on your top ten things to do list.

Not alone do you have a fab selection of new and used records to browse, there's an in-house café to keep you fed and watered during your visit.

You can find Mathew Street Records and The Library Coffee House in the Cavern Walks arcade which can be accessed from Mathew and Harrington Streets.

What we did on our holidays - part 1.

Little did we know that it's Cilla Black's birthday today. As many of you know, Cilla worked in the cloakroom of the Cavern Club and was friendly with the Beatles. It wasn't until we went to Liverpool on our hols that we found out the fabled Eric's Club was just across the road from the original Cavern Club entrance on Mathew Street.

Before its demise in 1980, Eric's played host to a who's who of bands from the late 1970s, including The Clash, Joy Division, The Ramones, The Slits and Talking Heads. It also provided a platform for local bands Dead or Alive, Echo and the Bunnymen, Orchestral Manoeuvrers in the Dark, The Teardrop Explodes and Wah! Heat.

The original Cavern Club closed in 1973, re-opening in a new location and configuration on Mathew Street in 1984. After a number of incarnations over the following decades, Eric's re-opened as a live music venue in 2011.
