🤣🍻 THINGS YOU ONLY UNDERSTAND IF YOU RUN A PUB! 🍻🤣

People think running a pub is just pouring pints, having a laugh and chatting to customers… OH, HOW WRONG THEY ARE! 😂

Let’s talk about the things nobody warns you about when you become a landlord!

🤣 THE PUB THIEVES – People will nick absolutely anything that isn't nailed down. Glasses, toilet rolls, ornaments, decorations… We're half expecting someone to leave with the bloody bar!

🍺 THE CUSTOMERS WHO ARE ALWAYS RIGHT – Apparently, no matter what happens, the customer is ALWAYS right. Even when they're spectacularly, unbelievably WRONG! 😂

🚽 THE TOILETS – Oh dear Lord! Some of the things we find in there are beyond human understanding. We could write a book, but honestly, you'd never eat your dinner again. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?! 🤢😂

🏠 THE ONES WHO NEVER WANT TO GO HOME – We've turned the lights on, turned the music off, put the chairs up and practically started sweeping around your feet… BUT STILL THEY SIT THERE! 🤣 Do we need to send a search party?

🗣️ THE CONVERSATIONS – You hear things in a pub that you couldn't make up if you tried. Affairs, arguments, family dramas, medical problems, financial disasters and stories that really should never be shared in public! 😂

🛋️ THE UNPAID COUNSELLOR – Apparently, we're not just landlords. We're marriage counsellors, agony aunts, therapists, relationship experts and mediators. Everyone's got a problem and we're expected to solve it between pouring pints!

🏦 THE PUB BANK – "Can you lend me a tenner?" "Can I pay you Friday?" "Can you just look after this for me?" 🤣 We're a pub, not NatWest!

🤦‍♀️ THE COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT – Too hot, too cold, music too loud, music too quiet, drinks too expensive, drinks not strong enough, someone's sitting in their favourite seat… YOU NAME IT!
And let's not forget we're expected to be cleaners, plumbers, electricians, security guards, entertainers, stock controllers, mind readers and bloody miracle workers!

But here's the thing…

❤️ Despite the madness, the drama, the long hours, the things that go missing and the things we'd rather NEVER see again…
WE WOULDN'T SWAP IT FOR THE WORLD!
Well… ask us again on a Monday morning after a busy weekend! 🤣🤣

To all our customers at the United Kingdom pub 🇬🇧 – we love you really… even the awkward ones! 😉
PLEASE DON'T TAKE THE TOILET ROLL ON YOUR WAY OUT! 🤣🍻

💛 Together we raised a fantastic £250 for St Leonard’s Hospice, in loving memory of Trev. ❤️

🍺 HOW MUCH MORE BLOOD DO THEY WANT OUT OF BRITISH PUBS?! 🇬🇧

Another Budget. Another Kick in the Bo****ks for Hospitality!

Let’s look at the damage…

🍺 B**R DUTY UP 3.9% – because clearly we’re not paying enough for a bloody pint already!

💷 MINIMUM WAGE UP 3.9% – our staff deserve decent money, absolutely! But who’s helping us pay for it?

❌ VAT STILL 20% – not a penny of help. Cheers for that!

🏠 BUSINESS RATES RELIEF – a few crumbs thrown our way while the rest of the costs go through the roof!

Here’s what the government doesn’t seem to understand…

We can’t keep putting prices up. You can’t keep paying more. And we certainly can’t keep pulling money out of thin air!

WE RUN PUBS, NOT BLOODY MONEY-PRINTING MACHINES!

Our pubs are not just about food and drink they are the heart and soul of the community.

We’re not asking for a handout. JUST STOP MAKING IT SO BLOODY HARD TO KEEP THE DOORS OPEN!

To everyone who supports us, THANK YOU. We know you’re being squeezed too.

YOU CAN’T KEEP KICKING THE GREAT BRITISH PUB AND EXPECT IT TO KEEP GETTING BACK UP!

For some of your regulars, you're the only conversation they'll have today.

Not the only pint. The only conversation.

You know exactly who they are. The fella who's in at opening for a half and the crossword, and asks you for a six-letter river even though he's already got it. The woman who has one glass of white every Tuesday, same seat, same time, and tells you about the grandkids in Australia she hasn't seen for three years. The bloke who lost his wife and started coming in at five, because five o'clock is when the house gets too quiet.

You start pouring before they reach the bar. You keep a tankard on the hook for one of them. You know which one wants the racing on, and which one wants to be left alone with the paper but still likes a “hello” as you walk past.

They'll never leave you a review. They don't follow your page. They spend the same few quid every visit, and they don't show up anywhere in your numbers.

But you notice when one of them hasn't been in for a few days. You ask around. You ring someone who knows them. Sometimes you're the one who goes round and knocks on the door.

And when the day comes that one of them doesn't come back, nobody sits on that stool for weeks. You shut for an hour so the team can go to the funeral. You put on the wake, and you don't charge what you should. Their tankard stays on the hook.

Nobody teaches you that bit. It's not in any training course, any area manager's checklist or any P&L. But every landlord reading this knows exactly what we are talking about.

So on the days you're knackered, behind on the bills and wondering why you still do this, think about them. To some people you're not a business. You're the reason they put a coat on and leave the house.

That's not a sideline to running a pub. That's the job.
