You can move quickly between open tabs in your web browser by holding down the Ctrl key and typing Tab. Holding down the Shift key also (so, Ctrl + Shift + Tab) reverses direction.

(The Tab key is the one above the Caps Lock key on most UK keyboards).

In web browsers (and a few other apps), pressing the F11 key makes the page you're looking at take up the full screen. No toolbars, status bars or title bars. Typing F11 again restores the previous layout.

(On smaller keyboards you may have to hold down the Fn key to enable F11).

When you're browsing the web, pressing Ctrl and + (plus symbol) increases the font size. Pressing Ctrl and - (minus symbol) decreases the font size. If you want to reset the font size back to the default, press Ctrl and 0. On the Mac, use the Command key (aka "cloverleaf" or "propeller") instead of Ctrl.

Ever downloaded something from a web page and then not been able to find it a few minutes later? Perhaps you ended up just downloading it again. Next time, try pressing Ctrl + J (Command + J on the Mac). In most browsers, this will open a tab showing your downloaded files.

In Microsoft's Excel spreadsheet, to enter the same data or text into multiple cells at once, highlight all the cells that you want to have the same text, type the text you want, then instead of pressing Enter, press Ctrl + Enter. The text will be automatically entered in all highlighted cells.

You may have guessed that pressing either Pg Up or Pg Dn moves to the next or previous page. But did you know that when you're browsing the Internet, pressing spacebar moves the scrollbar down a page? Similarly, Shift+spacebar moves the scrollbar up one page. (This one works exactly the same on the Mac).

You can control YouTube with keyboard shortcuts. Press either the space bar or K to play or pause a video. Hold down either of these keys for slow motion. Press 0 (zero) or Home to jump to the beginning of a video and End to go to the end. Press J and L to step forward/backward 10 seconds. M mutes or unmutes. F switches between full-screen and normal mode. Esc exits full-screen mode.

Everyone agrees that what the world needs now is more emojis, right? ;-) To access your emoji keyboard, press the Windows Key + . (full stop) or Windows + ; (semi-colon) on Windows, and Cmd + Control + Spacebar on MacOS. You can scroll through all the available emojis and categories (People, Nature, Food & Drink, Celebration, Activity, Travel & Places, and Objects & Symbols) or search the full list of emojis from the search box at the top of the window.

If your PC is taking too long to boot, it may be because you are running too many programs at startup. You can easily block them for a quicker launch. On Windows, you can run the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc, then click the Startup tab. Click any program in the list then click the Disable button to prevent it from running on startup.

On a Mac, you can block startup applications by going to System Preferences > Users & Groups > [your username] and clicking on the Login Items tab.
