Our first major Open of the year is upon us!

This weekend is our Seniors Open tournament, open to all Ladies & Gentlemen golfers over the age of 50 on the day. A friendly format sees the winner chosen from the best 18-hole stableford score of the weekend. This cuts some slack for those watching the football overnight - clubhouse closing at 7pm Saturday before reopening at 11pm coz we all need to go home for a shower and a change of socks at some point!

At £25 for two rounds of golf this represents amazing value and with the forecast looking decent, it should be a fantastic couple of days.

Corey Allan, one of our previous apprentice greenkeepers returned home to Whiting Bay for a short visit this week.

Corey was accompanied by his girlfriend Aloysa Atienza, a professional golfer, who competes in the Ladies European Tour Access series. Corey now works at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore as an assistant superintendent greenkeeper.

Having planned to play all the courses on Arran, they instead played Whiting Bay four times enjoying its pristine condition (shout out to Stuart and Liam!) and the challenging layout. They joined the Wednesday medal this week and were warmly welcomed by the members.

Aloysa said “The club is like a family, everyone is so supportive of each other and I look forward to returning again next time I’m in Scotland".

We're finalising details of the reciprocal and we'll put a sheet up in the clubby for the Singapore trip. Thanks to our on-the-course reporter David Brookens for the story 👍

Well it wasn't just our greenkeeper Liam winning a tournament over the weekend, as our very own Vice-Captain Cameron Bruce lifted the prestigious Sue Ryder Cup title. The SRC is a 'roaming' tournament which is held annually throughout Great Britain and this year was played at Lamlash Golf Club, Isle of Arran.

Now in it's 20th year, Cammy is a two-time winner of the event and you can see from his smiling face what it means to him as he is presented with the coveted jacket from last years winner.

Well done, Cameron!

Congratulations to our very own Liam Bremner for lifting the trophy at Brodick Golf Club, Isle of Arran's Gents Open over the weekend. Liam topped the standings with the best net score of the weekend. Apprentice greenskeeper but already a master golfer.

Well done Brem!

The captain, committee, members and friends of Whiting Bay Golf Club would like to take this opportunity to wish Danny Head all the best for his wedding today.

Danny has always been a fantastic contributor to the club, having served on the committee for many years and always being a fantastic representative of Whiting Bay, both on and off the course. He's also pretty handy at swinging a club and we're sure there will be many more photos like this in the future, although he's going to run out of hands if he keeps adding to his little ginger flock.

Congrats Danny and Paulina and all the best for your big day (draw at 10am tomorrow as usual)

Hard to believe it's almost a year since Neilly emerged as the winner of the Whiting Bay Seniors Open! 🏆🥃

This year's event is nearly upon us, taking place on the 13th and 14th June, which is a week on Saturday already so you'd best get planning 🗓️

Don't forget our Seniors is a mixed event and a friendly stableford format, so if you're over 50 you're very welcome to join and at £25 for TWO ROUNDS of golf you'd be crazy not to. Only fancy one day? No problem, that's £15 and as its your best card over two days, you're still in with a shout of winning.

To sign up, please email [email protected] or call 01770 700 487

Huge shout-out to Colin and Jackie Nisbet for their very generous sponsorship of the Whiting Bay Seniors Open ❤️
