The White Hart is an independent public house set in the heart of the beautiful Sussex countryside within easy reach of many local tourist attractions such as Buxted Park and The Ashdown Forest. The recently refurbished restaurant and bar combines clean open plan design with some of the traditional features of an old English Public House, creating a relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere. Along with the c

lassic British pub bar & restaurant there is the conservatory restaurant, perfectly suited for both social and business gatherings. In the warmer months, the country garden is open for diners, drinkers and events. Here at The White Hart all the simple, classic dishes that you know and love are created using the best quality, locally sourced, seasonal ingredients and presented to you 'perfectly' all for a reasonable price. What more can you ask? Well... If you are in the mood for something a bit different, a little bit special… We take our steaks very seriously indeed. We Dry Age our beef in house to achieve a depth of flavour that is unsurpassed by any average steak. We have recently introduced a full Steakhouse Menu to complement our classic pub dishes. This menu includes well known favourites such as Sirloin, Fillet, Rump and our In-House 52 day Dry Aged Rib Eye Steak along with a few unsung heroes of the steak world like our Flat Iron Steak which is full of character and the Hanger Steak which has a flavour unlike any other cut that needs to be experienced to be believed. Our dedicated team will go above and beyond to ensure that you have the best dining experience possible.

🍔 MEET THE TEAM MONDAY: JOHNNIE! 🍔

This week we’re shining the spotlight on our one and only Johnnie and what a character he is!! — the chef behind our brilliant Monday Evening Burger Night!

Johnnie joins our kitchen team every Monday to serve up our delicious Steaks, burgers and other dishes. We asked him a few questions for you to get to know him a bit better. We also asked Johnnie what first drew him into cooking, and he told us:
“I wanted to utilise my cooking skills with wild food and game…”

Position: Freelance Chef
Length of service: 1 year
Hobbies outside of work: spending as much time with my daughter as I can, shooting and fishing
Favourite dish: I love creating the smoke house platter. Bringing all the elements together to create a masterpiece.
Favourite drink: Double espresso (Chef Fuel)
Interesting fact: Worked in kitchens run by Gordon Ramsey and Marco Pierre White
Pet peeve: Road works & Sundays drivers

It’s Meet the Team Monday (yes… on a Tuesday)!

This week is dedicated to our lovely General Manager- Jade!

Jade is another long standing member of the hospitality industry, serving 14 years in her career so far! She began her journey at 18 years old learning her way around a bar… following the birth of her first born she landed a role in hotels, gaining experience in events, conference & banqueting! Jade gained her food knowledge working largely with Game in a beautiful rural site… soon enough she began her time here at TheWHB joining us as FoH Manager and 2.5 years ago earning her General Manager Title… and my goodness do we appreciate her!!

We asked Jade some questions to get to know her a little better…

Your hobbies outside of work- Working, being a mum is my real full time job!

✨ Meet the Team Monday: Ric ✨

This week, our spotlight falls on Ric — our incredible Head Chef and the creative mind behind every delicious dish on The White Hart menus!

Ric’s journey in hospitality began remarkably early, at just 14 years old, starting out as a KP. From those early days, he worked his way up through the ranks, honing his craft and building experience across a variety of different venues, until he earned his place leading our kitchen team.
When we asked Ric what first drew him to a career as a chef, he gave us his classic, cheeky reply: “I wanted to learn how to cook… mainly to impress the ladies!” 😂
Jokes aside, Ric’s passion, skill, and dedication shine through in everything he creates. Every menu is crafted with care, quality, and real attention to detail — and we are so proud to have him leading our kitchen and delivering such wonderful food for you all to enjoy.

This week, our spotlight shines on Ben, a key part of the team here at The White Hart!
Ben’s journey in hospitality began early, at just 15 years old, working as a KP at IS. By 18, he had discovered his true passion for mixology and dove headfirst into the world of cocktails. As he grew, so did his skills—by 24, he had developed a deep love and appreciation for great food, broadening his expertise across every part of the business.

Today, Ben’s focus is simple but meaningful: he takes immense pride in seeing our customers enjoy every little detail we’ve worked so hard to put in place. From the welcome you receive, to the drinks we pour and the food we serve, Ben is dedicated to making sure The White Hart remains the warm, welcoming, and high-quality venue we all love.
