Nestling at the bottom of the Blackdown Hills just 1.5 miles from the centre of the county town of Taunton, The Winchester Arms is a traditional village pub situated in the village of Trull. Our restaurant where we serve homemade locally sourced traditional pub food is extremely popular. Our Specials Board always includes a great variety and quite often includes venison, rabbit, pigeon and a variety of sea food. Come and enjoy the atmosphere in a vibrant traditional village pub - you can even have a game of skittles in our alley. Whether you're after a light bite for lunch, a delicious dinner, a bed for the the night, or just a quiet pint in our bar, or stream side beer garden you've found the right place! All of our food is made from scratch in our kitchen using locally sourced produced, and we have a good range of well kept real ales, ciders, a wide selection of wines. Completely agree with this article as well

The Chancellor promised “breathing space on the cost of living and the cost of business” and “innovation and growth in every postcode”. But for many pubs, yesterdays Autumn Budget delivered neither.

BII CEO, Steve Alton, shares “The Prime Minister said pubs ‘need to know that the cavalry is coming’. Today, it simply didn’t arrive. This Budget was a missed opportunity to support growth, employment and tangible social value, and without further urgent support, many of our nation’s pubs in every postcode will simply not be able to survive and be lost to their communities.”

If anybody wants to know the reality facing all small businesses including pubs here is an extremely informative and moving interview

For pubs there is not only the knock-on of the implications from the Budget but there is also the out of control costs for energy to add on to the Government pressures of Minimum Wage (including taking out bands for younger staff so that they get paid considerable more) then the additions of NI /PAYE and Pension contributions. Now a person on Minimum (Living) wage will be on £27,500 per annum for a 40 hour week - then for the employer there is an additional £4,500 in payments linked to these wages. I am fully behind minimum wage BUT this has risen exponentially in recent years. Not only will the Winch have to cover these rises but so will our suppliers - which means that ALL costs are going to rise sharply, yet again!

The CAMRA Good B**r Guide 2027 is now published

We are proud to say that the Wi******er Arms is featured in the Guids, as we have been for many years.

We continue to be proud to stock a variety of real ales and ciders from local producers.

Currently on the bar we have Otter Amber, Jail Ale (Dartmoor), Lady of the Lake (Glastonbury Ales) and Thirsty Blonde (Teignworthy). In addition the ciders in stock are Sheppy's Classic, Sandford Orchards Devon Red and half a dozen bag in box ciders.

What an amazing transformation is possible when you get the right tradesman in.

At 9.30 this morning or restaurant windows had certainly seen better days. The lovely single glazed Crittall windows were showing their age and in winter provided us with some character building draughts.

By 2pm we had brand spanking new double glazing installed thanks to the efforts of Lee Gibbs and his team!

I would happily recommend Gibbs Glazing to anybody who wants new windows installed. A great local company and his work is actually better than his skittles!!!!

The Wi******er Arms will be closed over the weekend of Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th September for the Wedding of a member of staff!

We are sorry for any inconvenience that this causes to our customers but I am sure that in the circumstances you will fully understand why we will not be open at this time.

We will open again as normal on Monday 7th September.
