Winchester Arms

Winchester Arms A traditional village pub just 1.5 miles from the centre of Taunton. We serve great homemade pub food We have 5 B&B rooms, two of which are en-suite.

Nestling at the bottom of the Blackdown Hills just 1.5 miles from the centre of the county town of Taunton, The Winchester Arms is a traditional village pub situated in the village of Trull. Our restaurant where we serve homemade locally sourced traditional pub food is extremely popular. Our Specials Board always includes a great variety and quite often includes venison, rabbit, pigeon and a varie

ty of sea food. Come and enjoy the atmosphere in a vibrant traditional village pub - you can even have a game of skittles in our alley. Whether you're after a light bite for lunch, a delicious dinner, a bed for the the night, or just a quiet pint in our bar, or stream side beer garden you've found the right place! All of our food is made from scratch in our kitchen using locally sourced produced, and we have a good range of well kept real ales, ciders, a wide selection of wines. Patrick and the team look forward to seeing you soon.

Yesterday Patrick posted this on his page.......

Fundraising for Mind in Somerset is going really well. All the funds are being raised in memory of Lauren Jackson who sadly passed away earlier this year a the tender age of 17. She was a valued and loved member of our team at the Wi******er Arms and we still miss her terribly.
After a good first month in which I lost over a stone in weight I have struggled to keep the momentum going. As a result I need to double my efforts especially given the massive support that everyone has given thus far with their donations.
I have started delivering leaflets door to door to advertise the pub and the Beer, Cider & Music Festival at the end of July - on the last day, Sunday 2nd August, I will be holding my final weigh-in during the afternoon at the Festival.
Last week I walked 10 miles delivering - and today, Monday, I covered 6.7 miles. I am hoping that this activity will be additional help in losing those pounds.
Thus far £1,432 had been donated through the Just Giving page and £500 has been donated by customers in the pub - the sponsorship form is available behind the bar.
So thus far nearly £2,000 has been raised. Many thanks to all those who have already donated and, hopefully, there will be more donations forthcoming in the next couple of months.

(Today Patrick has already covered another 21,000 steps (nearly 10 miles))

Somerset CAMRA launch a new initiative today with their inaugural Somerset Cider Trail.

We are pleased to announce that we are supporting this venture by stocking Win's Cider (made by a close friend and a former member of our staff). We have in stock both a Medium and a Dry version of Win's Cider. Tom Wintrip, the cider maker, has just won a prestigious award at the Royal Bath and West Show - a superb achievement, CONGRATULATIONS TOM!! Come along and sample his amazing produce!!

PLEASE NOTE that this cider is stocked at the Wi******er Arms in Trull and not The Wi******er in Taunton.......

We wish everyone involved in the Cider Trail all the best and we hope that this provides cider drinkers with the opportunity to sample the wide variety of excellent ciders produced within the County of Somerset.

As a personal note I have sampled a number of these ciders over the years and look forward to getting around to find out what the others are like. I can personally vouch for Win's Cider (obviously) and then Loaders, Bray's, Rich's, Harry's, Tricky, Perry's, Torre, Porlock, Hecks and Wilkins - all of which we have stocked over the years at our Annual Beer, Cider and Music Festival which takes place from 31st July to 2nd August, these dates link in nicely with the last weekend of the Cider Trail! We will be stocking a lot of these ciders at this year's Festival!!

Patrick, our Landlord, is currently on a sponsored slim raising funds for Mind in Somerset in memory of our Little Lauren (Jackson) who sadly died recently.

The sponsored slim started on Easter Monday, 6th April, and will run until the last day of our Beer, Cider & Music Festival on Sunday 2nd August (Patrick's Birthday).

On 6th April Patrick weighed in at 20st 13lbs (132.9kg)

Today we held an interim weigh-in and the latest is a weight of 20st (127kg), so 13lbs lost in the first month. Certainly progress in the right direction.

If you would like to sponsor Patrick then either do to his Just Giving Page https://www.justgiving.com/page/patrick-mahony-2

or alternatively, fill out the sponsorship form behind the Bar in the Winch and make your donation there.

So far £636 has been donated through Just Giving with another £305 being donated in the Winch, so thus far £941 has been raised. Thank you to everyone who has been generous enough to support Patrick in this venture.

On Monday I celebrated 10 years as Landlord of the Wi******er Arms in Trull. We had a great party and Nigel Reader sang for over 3 hours, what a fantastic set of songs he went through. Thank you, Nigel, and everyone else who made it a great day!

During the party I reflected a little on my time as Landlord of the village pub.

The saddest episode in all my time in Trull was when Lauren Jackson, our lovely 17 year-old waitress died whilst attending Richard Huish College. Lauren had worked with us for two years and was an absolutely delightful young lady, great sense of humour, loved by all (staff and customers alike) and was one of the best staff I have ever had. Until she passed we had no idea how much we would miss her, she always kept bust and made sure that all the little jobs were done as well as the big ones. We all miss you sooo much!

During a break in Nigel's performance I announced that I would be going on a Sponsored Slim from Easter Monday until Sunday 2nd August, which will be my 68th Birthday and the last day of our annual Beer, Cider & Music Festival.

I weighed in at a colossal 20st 13lbs (134.5kg) - so at least it should be easy to lose some weight!! My target is a tad ambitious at 16st 7lbs (105kg) but there is no point in setting an easy target. I aim to get as near as possible to this target weight.

I hope that as many of you as possible will sponsor me in this endeavour so that we can raise a substantial sum of money in Lauren's memory.

You can sponsor me either by making a donation at the pub, sponsorship forms are available to fill out, or by making a donation through my Just Giving page.

Either way any support will be greatly appreciated.

May Lauren live long in everyone's memories - we so miss you!
