On Monday I celebrated 10 years as Landlord of the Wi******er Arms in Trull. We had a great party and Nigel Reader sang for over 3 hours, what a fantastic set of songs he went through. Thank you, Nigel, and everyone else who made it a great day!
During the party I reflected a little on my time as Landlord of the village pub.
The saddest episode in all my time in Trull was when Lauren Jackson, our lovely 17 year-old waitress died whilst attending Richard Huish College. Lauren had worked with us for two years and was an absolutely delightful young lady, great sense of humour, loved by all (staff and customers alike) and was one of the best staff I have ever had. Until she passed we had no idea how much we would miss her, she always kept bust and made sure that all the little jobs were done as well as the big ones. We all miss you sooo much!
During a break in Nigel's performance I announced that I would be going on a Sponsored Slim from Easter Monday until Sunday 2nd August, which will be my 68th Birthday and the last day of our annual Beer, Cider & Music Festival.
I weighed in at a colossal 20st 13lbs (134.5kg) - so at least it should be easy to lose some weight!! My target is a tad ambitious at 16st 7lbs (105kg) but there is no point in setting an easy target. I aim to get as near as possible to this target weight.
I hope that as many of you as possible will sponsor me in this endeavour so that we can raise a substantial sum of money in Lauren's memory.
You can sponsor me either by making a donation at the pub, sponsorship forms are available to fill out, or by making a donation through my Just Giving page.
Either way any support will be greatly appreciated.
May Lauren live long in everyone's memories - we so miss you!
