There is currently a national shortage of foster carers.

Here's a link of a conversation between the Minister for children and families, Josh MacAlister and a foster carer about some of the misconceptions about becoming a foster carer.

Weather was nice enough to have a stroll round Jacksons Nurseries & Tea Room - Staffordshire. ST9 9LE before coffee and cake. Another opportunity for our foster carers to get together and chat about life, universe and everything, including their lives as foster carers.

We have carers in Derbyshire, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, Cheshire and Shropshire currently - contact us to learn more about becoming a foster carer with our agency.

Weather forecast wasnt good so we met at Hollybush Garden Centre & Aquaria for our men’s and women’s support group. Enjoyed a cuppa and a cake and celebrated one of our carer's birthdays. We enjoyed chatting and having a look at the Christmas displays.

Supporting our carers is a big part of what we do as a fostering agency. We couldn't do what we do without our carers, so we need to look after them.

Support includes.....24 hour support with someone they know..designated supervising social worker who visits monthly..monthly support groups in 2 different locations (includes breakfast)..men's and women's support groups in 2 different locations (includes coffee and cake)..training online and in person in 2 locations..children and family activities during the school holidays (1-2 a week)..Super Sons and Daughters group (for foster carers' children)..yearly awards ceremony, celebrating all the adults and children achievements over the year..Christmas party (including presents for our carers and children)

This week we're celebrating Children of Foster Carers' Week.

Big shout out to the members of our Super Sons and Daughters group!

Fostering involves the whole family.

These children have to learn to share their parents, their home, their toys. They may need support to share their parents, their home, their toys and also how to manage hello's and goodbye's.

Diverse Fostering we love to celebrate all the children's achievements round the year and especially at our annual award ceremony and Christmas party.

** reminder to our foster carers to let us know about these achievements in advance of our Awards Ceremony/ Christmas party **

This excellent video features a former foster child from the US explaining what children in foster care need from their carers. Becoming a foster carer is not easy, but being a safe, supportive adult can help a child become fully themselves.

We have had some great face2face training about Safeguarding this week. Not an easy topic, but vital for foster carers. Thanks Paul.
