💚 JUST OVER £4,000 FOR MACMILLAN! 💚
We’re still coming down from what was an absolutely brilliant Black Dog Auction Night last night! 🔨💵🐾

The Auction Night itself was always about giving something back to our customers — a bit of fun, some fantastic prizes and a thank you from us for your continued support.

But alongside the auction, we also held our raffle in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support…
And together, you helped us raise an absolutely incredible…
💚 JUST OVER £4,000! 💚

We genuinely cannot thank everyone enough who bought raffle tickets, donated, got involved and helped us raise such an amazing amount.
A HUGE thank you also goes to all of our suppliers & everyone who donated prizes for the Auction Night and helped us put together such a fantastic evening.

And finally, thank you to every single person who came along last night. The atmosphere was brilliant and it was great seeing everyone spending their hard-earned Black Dog Dollars! 😂💵
One brilliant night, a chance for us to give something back to our customers, AND over £4,000 raised for Macmillan Cancer Support. 💚
We couldn’t have asked for much more.

Full-Time Chef

The Black Dog – Waltham Chase - SO32 2LX

£28,000 basic salary + excellent tips
Typical overall earnings approximately £33,000–£38,000+
35–38 hours per week

We’re looking for a reliable and experienced Chef to join our small kitchen team at The Black Dog, a busy family-run traditional pub serving fresh, home-cooked food.

We don't have a traditional Head Chef structure – we work together, share the workload and chip in wherever needed. We're looking for someone to become another strong member of the team who, with training, can also confidently look after the kitchen on quieter shifts or when other chefs are off.

The Hours

One of the big advantages of this role is the working hours.

No early starts – normally around 10:00–10:30am.
No late-night finishes – usually around 8:30–9:00pm.
Earlier Sundays – generally finished around 6:00–7:00pm.

The position is around 35–38 hours per week, although this can vary slightly.

Evening and weekend work is part of the rota, but that doesn't mean working every weekend. We try to share weekends fairly across the team so everyone gets weekends off too.

Pay & Tips

The basic salary is around £28,000 per year, plus an excellent staff tip scheme.

Our full-time team members currently receive approximately £100–£200 per week in tips, with the potential for even more during the busy winter and Christmas months.

This means typical overall earnings could be approximately £33,000–£38,000+ per year. Tips naturally vary and aren't guaranteed.

The Role

You'll be involved in:

- Preparing and cooking fresh, home-cooked food
- Daily food preparation and working across the kitchen
- Maintaining consistent food quality and presentation
- Food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness
- Deliveries, stock rotation and reducing waste
- Working alongside and supporting the rest of the team
- With training, confidently running a service when required

About You

Previous experience in a professional kitchen is required, but we're happy to provide training and help the right person develop.

You don't need to be a Head Chef or have management experience. We're looking for someone who is reliable, enjoys cooking fresh food, works well in a small team and is willing to learn and take on more responsibility over time.

Most importantly, we want a good, dependable chef who enjoys cooking proper food and wants to become part of a friendly, family-run business.

• Previous hospitality experience is preferred but not essential – full training will be provided for the right person
• Must be available to work evenings & weekends
