I know we are called the Rising Sun - however, we get some of the best sunsets ever right out the front of the pub! Did you know on the 12th August the UK will be experiencing a partial, very nearly total eclipse, the first since 1999!

It's due to start at 6.16pm and be over with by 8.37pm with approximately 92% of the suns surface covered by the moon.

What better way to hopefully see it than stood down on the shore? In fact our 1st floor restaurant would be perfect! Give us a call on 01489 576898 to book!

Don't forget you'll need to bring your ISO glasses (certified solar glasses) to be able to look at the sun safely.

Just an FYI for anyone planning on heading out this weekend on the river hamble in a kyak or on a paddle board– we’ve got some huge spring tides at the moment, so make sure you get your timings right. Getting caught out by the tide can make for a very tough paddle!

The tidal differences this weekend are massive - extremely highs, then massive amount of water going out over just 2 hours makes for extremely fast water. The narrower sections especially the bridges, past Deacons, around the bend at Jolly Sailor - the water will rip through these sections. Unless really experienced these areas should be avoided. Definitely the weekend to use the calmer sections of the river upstream.

Also take into account that it will be very busy with alot of boats in & out of Swanwick marina.
