🎵SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC🎵(or lose it)

Dear reader,

Those of you that have followed our journey at The Cheese Rollers will know that over the last nearly four years we’ve been a big supporter of putting on and supporting live music!

In the summer, we have a successful two day C***r Festival and this past summer we’ve also been doing our “Sunday Sessions”. All of which has been successful and postive and enjoyed by those who have come to see us!

Outside of that we’ve built up a bit of a following for our monthly live music nights. You’ll see many a videos (or reel as Facebook call it) featuring some of the best bands around performing here with the pub packed! We always try to advertise externally through social media and posters well in advance so people can put the dates in their diaries and keep it free. I’ve been in a few pubs recently when they have had live music on and thought I’m so lucky because we are always well supported and other pubs haven’t had a similar turnout - even for the same bands who draw a crowd here. However it looks like the times are changing….

Both our September date and last night were poorly attended by our standards. I know there is a cost of living crisis but when you bar takings are less than what the band costs to play we need to have a serious thought and discussion about what we do with live music. Last night we took the same money as a normal Friday without live music so is it just a summer thing? Do we go to bi-monthly or even once a quarter? Do we only use the same three/four bands that guarentee to bring plenty of following with them? Do we get solo artists in that are cheaper than bands? Do we just keep it a summer thing in the b**r garden? Or have we just been unlucky?

I’ve not started on our 2027 Live Music line up yet and at the moment holding back for this reason. I’d love to hear your views if you have been here for live music in the past or supported live music in the comments. Maybe you’re a publician or musician and are seeing the same trends elsewhere? All feedback is welcome in the comments….

The Live Music already announced for 2026 with SlowJin here at SlowJin - Live at the Rollers (Free entry) on 13th of November and Freefall here for Freefall - Live at the Rollers (Free entry) on 4th of December will be going ahead as planned!
