😂 Well, this is a relief…
Apparently, as an employer, I’m not a “working person” — I’m a company.
I genuinely wish somebody had told me sooner.
Because this particular “company” regularly works 70–80 hours a week, opens up, closes down, serves customers, cleans, orders stock, sorts rotas, covers staff sickness, pays wages, answers emails, does the accounts, deals with suppliers and spends an unhealthy amount of time wondering which enormous bill is arriving next. 😂
I also don’t remember seeing the bit where becoming an employer meant I stopped being a human being and magically transformed into a faceless multinational corporation.
I own a small independent business.
I don’t have a board of directors.
I don’t have shareholders.
I don’t have a CEO earning millions.
I don’t have an HR department, finance department or procurement team.
I have me.
And like thousands of other small business owners, I work ridiculous hours, employ local people, collect taxes for the Government, pay business rates, VAT, PAYE, National Insurance and countless other costs — and then hopefully there’s something left at the end to pay myself.
Sometimes my staff probably earn more per hour than I do. 😂
So I must remember next time I’m still working late at night after an 80-hour week:
I’m not tired.
Companies apparently don’t get tired. 🤣
Small business owners ARE working people.
We just happen to be working people who also take the financial risk, create the jobs and sign the cheques.
Perhaps somebody at the Treasury might like to spend a week running a small independent business.
I’ll happily provide the rota. 🍺😂
…..I’m glad I’m not a working person or I’d be kn*ckered 🤦🏻♀️
