Spirit Of The Week...

The Balvenie Distillery.
The Sweet Toast Of American Oak.
12 Year Old 43.0%

This Speyside single malt was aged in ex-Bourbon oak casks and finished in virgin oak barrels, which were imported from Kentucky and deeply toasted at the distillery's cooperage. On the nose it's lusciously malty with some sweet fudge, followed by citrusy and vanilla aromas with layers of spicy oak notes, ginger and cinnamon. Whilst on the palate you find candied orange and lemon peel, vanilla toffee and butterscotch, layers of blossom honey, some melted brown sugar and oak spices at the end. The finish is rich and malty with gentle waves of oak vanilla and subtle spices.

Tuesday has come round again and it's brings with it a match day and tram troubles however we're pushing ahead with our weekly quiz night. Our resident Quiz Master Dave will be in the house from 8.30PM but please be aware there is a SWFC match kicking off at 7.45PM this evening and there's ongoing tram works stopping trams running to Hillsborough from Shalesmoor.

We've got plenty of delectable treats for those of you daring to risk the trials and tribulations across our range of cask ales, keg b**rs and spirits which will be available until 11PM tonight as usual.

Spirit Of The Week...

Wh**ky
Tropical Fruit Salad 50.0%

This Lowland single malt wh**ky was produced at Inchdairnie Distillery in Fife and was matured for 6 years in a pair of first-fill bourbon barrels. On the nose there's oaty porridge, sweet pastries, apple, apricot and fresh vanilla custard. Whilst on the palate it's cereal malt forward, with a full bodied, oily mouth feel with a subtle grassiness, along with notes of banana peel, lemon pith and melon, followed by subtle vanilla, pink grapefruit, pineapple, and mango. Leading to a medium length finish with vanilla and banana tones.

We're keeping that march going towards the Steel City B**r and C***r Festival (kicks off tomorrow) but tonight for us is our weekly quiz night. Our resident Quiz Master Dave will be in the house from 8.30PM with those all important general knowledge questions.

For us on the bar we've got plenty of choice across our array of cask ales, keg b**rs and spirits which as usual are all available until 11PM tonight. Do keep an eye out though as we may have some specials coming up for the b**r festival due to make an appearance.

It's the start of a new week and the build up to the nearby Steel City B**r and C***r Festival but for us it's a different start as today marks 10 years since we opened the doors with myself in charge and as the Neepsend brewery Tap way back in 2016.

It's been a wild ride through the years, we've had good times, challenging times and a total shutdown.. each with a steep learning curve and building the ability to adapt at speed.

I'd just like to thank everyone new, current and old from staff and customers to suppliers we've worked with across the years.

Macleod Distillers Ltd
Wh**ky
Twisted Stout 43.0%

This Islay single malt wh**ky was matured in ex Bourbon casks before being finished in stout casks, imparting delicious notes of sweet, silky chocolate and vanilla to the bold, punchy peat smoke at its core.
On the nose big, bold peat smoke leads the way, backed by burnt biscuits, salted chocolate, and treacle toffee. Whilst on the palate you find coastal smoke, vanilla fudge, roasted nuts, and earthy coffee grounds, with toasted marshmallows and smoked spices in tow. Leading to notes of dark chocolate, biscuity malt, hefty bonfire smoke and woody spice on the finish.
