Grounded #1: a day that started in the field and ended at the table.

In September we took a group up to Strickley Farm, just outside Kendal, where the Robinsons have farmed since 1875. James showed us round the farm and the dairy, and the hedgerows, ponds and wildflower margins that make Strickley as well known for nature as it is for milk.

Lunch was by the lake, made with Strickley’s own produce. Then back to Three Hares for dinner with James and the family, served family style alongside a few other local producers we love.

Thank you to the Robinsons for opening up the farm, to Nina for the cooking, to Gail Caddy for the photos, and to everyone who came.

This was the first of what we hope becomes a little festival of food and farming.

Sedbergh is small, but it’s not short on reasons to stay.

Start with a walk in the Dales, then coffee and something freshly baked at The Three Hares.

Wander the market square and the bookshop, settle in for a long pub lunch, then make an evening of it with seven courses at Tsuchi.

And when it’s all done, skip the drive and stay the night with us.

Christmas plans, all in one place!

Sunday night, and the weekend’s nearly gone. We’ve got the next one sorted for you.

Start Saturday with coffee and something freshly baked at The Three Hares, spend the day strolling the Yorkshire Dales, then come back to a proper autumn pie and a seat at the bar, dog at your feet.

Stay in for a long, slow dinner, or make a night of it with seven courses at Tsuchi.
