Whitby's full of top hats and velvet this weekend. 🦇

If you need a breather from the crowds, it's a short drive up the coast to Runswick Bay. Walk the beach, have lunch with a view, and head back for the evening's gigs.

Food served 12pm to 9pm today and tomorrow.

Runswick Bay has its very own spooky story, just in time for half term. 👻

At the far end of the beach are caves in the cliffs called Hob Holes. Local legend says it was home to a hob, a mischievous little goblin who could cure whooping cough. Parents would carry poorly children down to the cave and call on the hob to take the cough away.

Walk along the beach and see if you can find them (check the tide times first) and remember not to get too close to the cliffs, enjoy them from afar. Then come back to us for lunch and tell us whether you heard anything.

If half term hasn't gone to plan today, bring everyone down to The Royal. Stone-baked pizza, a kids' menu, something warm for the grown-ups, and a view of the bay that's just as good in the rain, wind or sun.

Beach in the morning, lunch with us, rock pools again in the afternoon. That's a good day.
