When the queen excluder got stuck to the bottom of a heavy super, I couldn’t put it back on without squashing a load of bees… so I did the only sensible thing: stood completely still and shouted for help.

This is fresh comb from one of our apiaries, and it’s a bit of a fan favourite. In past years it’s been our least sweet honey, with a deeper, more “grown-up” flavour. We think that might be down to the peatland surrounding the site.

Yellow-legged hornet nest spotted and removed in Oldham, Manchester.
This video shows an Asian hornet (yellow-legged hornet) and the nest that’s been found locally — one of the first confirmed nests in our area.
If you spot one, please don’t ignore it. Reporting sightings quickly is one of the best ways we can slow their spread and help protect honeybees and other pollinators.
Please report it on the Asian Hornet Watch app (a photo really helps).

Wasps’ nest spotted in the apiary today — and it’s been really interesting watching them work the Himalayan balsam that’s growing all around the site.

They might be a nuisance at picnics, but out here they’re busy pollinating.

If you live in South Manchester, there is a good chance you have walked past the plants that made this honey.

Our raw honey is bottled by postcode, so you can literally taste where it came from. Sale M33, Stretford M32, Urmston M41 and a few more all taste different, because the bees have better taste in flowers than we do.

If you are topping up your jar, ordering a gift, or just curious which postcode you would be, have a look in the shop and pick your favourite.

Festival flu is definitely a thing (apparently) — and my son’s currently trying to cure it with the elite combo of honey + lemon after coming home from Leeds Festival with a throat like sandpaper.

Anyone else get knocked out with a sore throat/cold after a festival… or is it just us?

A nest was found and destroyed in Oldham in August. Fears were confirmed and the yellow legged Asian hornet is here in the Manchester area.
