Come and join us for Torbay Chess at Paignton Harbour – a friendly, relaxed weekly meet-up for anyone who enjoys a game of chess (or wants to learn).

Anchors Rest is evolving, and we’d love your help shaping what comes next.

From March, we’re turning Anchors Rest into a social hub for the community – a welcoming meeting place for local groups, clubs and community activities, not just a bar. The idea is to create a flexible space that different communities in Paignton can use regularly as their “home base”.
We’re now looking to gauge interest and connect with:

• Clubs and groups looking for a regular venue
• Hobby and craft groups
• Chess and board game clubs
• Book clubs, gaming groups, social meetups
• Fitness, wellness or support groups

If you’re involved in a group that needs a space – or you know someone who is – please tag them in the comments or drop us a message. We’re aiming to open in this new role in March, but we can show interested groups around the venue in February and chat about what you need and possible regular slots.

We’re also planning to run our own social events, such as quiz nights and low-stakes poker tournaments, and are open to other ideas like games nights or live music. Let us know in the comments what kind of nights you’d actually come out for.
