Away in Devon with my family this half term. No going to lie, it’s been a windy affair, and that’s not just dad! Went for a lovely and very windswept walk this afternoon. Finished up with a pint of c***r at the Village Inn. Definitely deserved!

Meet the lovely and very stylish Derrick! He loves snacks, in fact, he can’t get enough of them! What doesn’t Derrick like? Well, obviously, not having enough snacks! Even though he looks the epitome of sweet and innocent, this boy is apparently a bit of an escape artist. Just keep a look out when you’re next in town. You can always escape to The George Derrick! X

Let me talk to you about another invaluable member of the team. Mr Pete Arden. What this man doesn’t know about b**r or the cellar quite frankly isn’t worth knowing about! He’s rescued me on many an occasion when one of the ales is playing up or something stops working
and I have no idea why. I always look forward to our Monday mornings where we sit down and discuss the state of affairs and what ales to order next. A true wonder
and a great man. Xx

Every year, The George is proud to host the annual Pumpkin Competition! Organised by Frank, who hands out seeds to a number of our regulars who then take them away, pot them up and nurture them in to the fabulous specimens you see in the photos. Then every October, they all congregate in the back of the pub for the weigh-in! Whoever has the heaviest pumpkin is crowned the winner. This year it was Bondy! Our team member Jo, tried to steal the crown, but was disqualified for not being an actual pumpkin!

Here she is, The George and Dragon Inn, the place I’m lucky enough to run with my fantastic team. A place where anyone is made to feel welcome, whether a local or travelling from further a field, there’s always a friendly face to greet you. A former coaching inn, parts of it are speculated to date back to the early 1500s and if you look above the fireplace in the bar, you can see where the old Landlords from the 1800’s have inscribed their names. A fascinating piece of social history. Whether you’re after a great pint, glass of w**e or a bite to eat, you’ll always be welcome here.

Afternoon everyone,
I am writing this post to let you all know that, due to the continuing increases in the cost of outgoings in recent months, I have had to make the difficult decision to add a small amount to our b**rs and ales. In most cases, this is by just 10 pence a pint. I don’t make the decision lightly, but I need to ensure that I can keep the pub running at its best and with the best service and products available. With the cost of utilities, rates, rent and food, along with all the other costs of running a business continuing to go up, I have raised the prices slightly now in the hope of not having to do it again for a while. I would like to sincerely thank everyone for your support over the last few months. Your faith in me has been incredible and meant so much. I hope that you will still continue to support me and the team over the coming months and hopefully years. Thank you. Xx

Let me introduce myself properly to anyone who doesn’t know who I am. My name’s Kate, I’m the one on the left in the photos. I took over running The George back in March and signed a full five year lease this September. So that means you’ll be seeing quite a bit of my mug I’m afraid! I am a local girl who has long loved The George and I really hope to be able to keep it running as the amazing local you all know and love. I’m very new to this, but I have a great team behind me helping me along the way. Which leads me to the other lady in this picture. The gorgeous Linda Gundersen who is a firmly established member of the team who I’d be lost without, and, no, before you ask, we’re not related!! 😂
