ONE WEEK TO GO! JAMES ALLSOPP PLAYS STAN GETZ 🎷

Make next Sunday an afternoon of fabulous live jazz.

On Sunday 8 November, James Allsopp and his fellow musicians bring the music of Stan Getz to Harborough Jazz — from tender ballads and swinging standards to the irresistible rhythms of bossa nova.

Known as “The Sound”, Getz made the tenor saxophone sing with warmth, elegance and extraordinary expression. His music reached far beyond the jazz world, and its magic still draws listeners in today.

JAMES ALLSOPP PLAYS STAN GETZ — LESS THAN TWO WEEKS TO GO!

A chance to hear one of jazz’s great sounds! - Join James Allsopp and his fellow musicians at Harborough Jazz on Sunday 8 November for an afternoon of tender ballads, swinging standards, sparkling bebop and irresistible bossa nova.

What makes Stan Getz so important in the jazz world? Here are three reasons to celebrate him:

🎷 He was nicknamed “The Sound”. His warm, lyrical tenor saxophone tone was unmistakable, making him a defining voice of cool jazz and an inspiration to generations of players.

🌎 He helped bring bossa nova to the world. His collaborations with João Gilberto and Antônio Carlos Jobim, including the recording of “The Girl from Ipanema” featuring Astrud Gilberto, introduced countless listeners to the meeting of Brazilian rhythms and jazz.

🏆 Getz/Gilberto won Album of the Year at the 1965 Grammy Awards — a remarkable achievement that brought jazz to an audience far beyond its usual following.

Join us on Sunday 8 November for an afternoon celebrating one of jazz’s most distinctive voices. Award-winning saxophonist James Allsopp brings his own magic and imagination to the music of Stan Getz, with tender ballads, swinging standards, sparkling bebop and irresistible bossa nova rhythms.

Born in Philadelphia in 1927 and raised in New York, Stan Getz became one of the great tenor saxophonists of his generation. His lyrical phrasing and beautifully warm tone made him a leading voice in cool jazz, while his recordings with Brazilian musicians helped bring bossa nova to a worldwide audience. From “Desafinado” to “The Girl from Ipanema”, his music continues to enchant listeners long after his death in 1991.
