Happy World Environment Day!

Today we’re recognising the work UK vineyards do every day as stewards of the land: protecting soils, supporting biodiversity, conserving areas of outstanding natural beauty, and managing their landscapes with long‑term care.

Across the country, growers are...
🦋 integrating wildlife corridors,
🌱 planting cover crops,
🐝 keeping bees,
🐑 managing livestock,
👩🏽‍🌾 and farming in ways that strengthen the ecosystems around them.

Through Sustainable Wines of Great Britain, WineGB supports vineyards in taking this even further. SWGB sets standards for conservation, biodiversity, soil health, water protection, and responsible land management. Today, just under 40% of the UK’s undervine area is SWGB‑certified!

English and Welsh producers have a strong commitment to caring for the environments it depends on.

English wine set the tone at London Wine Fair as the Host Nation

The buzz around our producers was impossible to miss, and there was this brilliant sense of everyone pulling in the same direction. Producers, trade, educators, buyers… all circling the same question: how far can English wine really go.

Then the International Wine Challenge came in with the answer: further than ever. England achieving the highest percentage of medals per entry is a huge nod to the graft in the vineyard and the precision in the winery. It’s real validation for the people doing the work.

What’s happening now feels bigger than a moment. We’re creating new traditions which are centered around quality, sustainability, and the belief that this small island can make wine with genuine global impact. And honestly, it feels like we’re just getting started!

It was great to see you all there. Next up in the WineGB Calendar: The WineGB Conference and Awards
