For years pubs, restaurants and hospitality businesses have been told that reducing VAT simply isn’t possible… yet closures continue, costs keep rising and communities are losing vital social spaces.
Now celebrity chef and pub operator Tom Kerridge is spearheading the new “VAT’s The Problem” campaign, calling for a fairer VAT rate for hospitality to help protect jobs, pubs, restaurants and the wider industry.
The UK currently has one of the highest rates of VAT on hospitality in Europe, while many other countries recognise hospitality as a vital industry worth supporting with lower rates. Here, pubs and restaurants are expected to absorb soaring costs while still charging customers more just to stand still.
This is one issue the entire hospitality sector is united on.
