Canvey Island Conservative Club Newsletter June 2026
Dear Members
With the good weather upon us, what better place to be is there than Canvey Island Conservative Club? The umbrellas are up and the cushions are out, so browse the summer menu and order yourself a tasty lunch, washed down with a refreshing drink!
Thank you to everyone who completed Lisa’s Member’s Questionnaire. A total of 94 responses were received, and it was pleasing to see that the overall score given for entertainment was an average of 4/5. Your comments and suggestions have been taken seriously, and we thank you for taking the time to complete it.
Although 55 of the survey responses requested entertainment on Saturday evenings, the club is still very quiet so, unfortunately, we are going to have to limit our Saturday entertainment for the time being. With high quality acts costing £300-£500 per show, we simply cannot sustain this when so few people join us. This will be regularly reviewed by our Finance Team and, hopefully, weekly Saturday evening entertainment will return. On the other hand, Sunday afternoons continue to be very busy and there’s some great entertainment lined up – check out the diary dates over the page to see what’s coming up.
Regarding members paying for entertainment, some members said that they are unwilling to pay as it should be included in their membership fees. However, it is worth noting that membership fees pay for the overall running of the club including salaries, utilities, maintenance and subscriptions. (Unfortunately, the club is in desperate need of a new roof, so that will be a huge expense in the next few months.) Many members, however, said that they were willing to pay a nominal price for entertainment, particularly when food was included. We are therefore planning some themed Saturday evenings, the first one being a Reggae Night on Saturday 13th June. A tasty meal is on the menu, so get yourselves booked in.
Our current charity to support is Canvey Island First Responders and we are hosting an Evening of Magic on 6th June. There will be close table magic, followed by cabaret style magic. It’s £10 for members and £12.50 for non-members so book your place at the bar.

Sports Desk
Some exciting news for the sports lovers out there – a new sound system has been installed for our tv which is perfect timing for this summer’s events.
World Cup 2026
The countdown to the World Cup is truly underway with the opening game between Mexico and South Africa kicking off at 8pm on Thursday 11th June. Please check the boards above the bar for all the games we are showing throughout the tournament.

Horse Racing
We have a trip to Sandown Races on Friday 12th June. If you would like to join us, get your place booked at the bar. It’s £30 per person with tea/coffee and a breakfast roll included.
Royal Ascot is on from Tuesday 16th – Saturday 20th June. We are celebrating Ladies Day at the club on Thursday 18th June so dress up in your finest, get your fancy hats out, and join us from 1pm. There will be a ‘Top Tipster’ competition, and you could treat yourself to an Afternoon tea for £15 per person (must be booked in advance). Jugs of Pimms will also be on Sale for £15.
Wimbledon is on from Monday 29th June – Sunday 12th July. Come and enjoy a mouthwatering bowl of strawberries and cream during the tournament for just £3.
Snooker
We are so proud of our brilliant snooker teams who have done so well this season. Not only did Canvey Con X win the league, but they won the Henton Plate Trophy too. If you haven’t already done so, come along and try out our 2 fantastic tables.
Ladies Darts
We have a smashing bunch of ladies who love to play darts, and they thoroughly deserve a mention. They meet on Wednesdays at 8pm if anyone would like to join them.
