What remains when a space disappears?

Prem Sahib’s () work explores the architecture of public and private spaces and how they shape identity, belonging, and connection.

Reimagining their 2025 work for Studio Voltaire, Sahib brings together image, text, furniture, and sound. The work centres around - and departs from - ‘The Backstreet, London’s oldest and longest-running gay leather bar, which closed in 2022 after almost four decades.

Blending the personal and political, it traces presence and absence, bodies and memory, and the impact these spaces leave behind.
