Another big night for Kenya on the world stage.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi has won his fourth consecutive Diamond League 800m title, taking victory in Brussels in 1:41.80.

And remember, this is the same young Kenyan who broke the 1000m world record in Monaco earlier this year.

He is only 22 years old.

Kenya has produced some extraordinary middle-distance runners, and Wanyonyi now looks increasingly capable of writing his own chapter in that history.

David Rudisha’s legendary 800m world record of 1:40.91 still stands.

🇰🇪 Who says great Kenyan style has to be expensive?

From the packed stalls of Gikomba to Toi Market and the thrift pages of Instagram and TikTok, mitumba is becoming part of a new generation of Kenyan style. 🔥

Young Kenyans are taking second-hand clothes, mixing vintage finds with modern accessories, and creating looks that are affordable, individual and unmistakably their own.

But there’s more to the mitumba story than fashion.

Behind that jacket or pair of trousers is an entire economy. Traders, bale sellers, market workers, online thrift stores, stylists and content creators are all finding ways to earn from Kenya’s love of second-hand fashion.

And there’s the thrill that every mitumba shopper knows. You search through dozens of pieces, then suddenly find the one. 😄

For Kenya’s Gen Z, that familiar culture is now meeting social media, entrepreneurship and a growing interest in reusing and restyling clothes rather than always buying new.

🇰🇪 KENYAN CRAFTSMANSHIP ON THE WORLD STAGE! 🌍✨

What a moment for Kenyan fashion.

Kenyan designer Anil Padia, founder of Yosh*ta 1967, has won the Savoir-Faire Prize at the 2026 LVMH Prize in Paris.

The recognition celebrates exceptional craftsmanship, technical expertise and heritage. Yosh*ta 1967 receives €200,000 and a year of mentorship from LVMH experts.

Even more special, Anil became the first Kenyan designer to reach the finals of the prestigious LVMH Prize.

From Kenya to Paris, this is another reminder that Kenyan creativity, craftsmanship and ideas belong on the world stage. 🇰🇪👏🏿

And these are not just classroom exercises.

Many of the ideas are designed around real problems, including sustainability, better use of resources and improving everyday livelihoods.

At Engage Kenya, we want to see more of these stories.

Young Kenyans who are not simply waiting for solutions, but designing, experimenting and building them.

🌍 **Kenyan diaspora businesses invited to Meru’s major trade expo**

Kenyan entrepreneurs living abroad are being encouraged to participate in the Traders Empowerment Networking Expo (TENE Festival 2026), taking place at Kinoru Stadium in Meru from **7 to 12 September**.

The event is expected to bring together between **6,000 and 12,000 participants**, including entrepreneurs, investors, development organisations and members of the Kenyan diaspora.

For Kenyans overseas, participation is available **both in person and virtually**, creating an opportunity to connect with Meru-based businesses, explore investment opportunities and build meaningful partnerships.

🇰🇪🌱 WOULD YOU ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO BECOME A FARMER?

It is an interesting question.

For many Kenyan families, farming may not be the first career they imagine for their children.

But a new generation is starting to change that picture.

This week, young farmers, entrepreneurs and innovators are meeting in Nairobi for the Kenya Youth in Agrifood Systems Summit 2026, showcasing ideas around food, technology, climate resilience and agribusiness.

These are not simply young people looking for jobs.

Some are building businesses.
Some are using technology to solve farming problems.
Others are developing new ways of producing, processing and selling food.

Perhaps the future Kenyan farmer will look very different from the farmer many of us grew up imagining.

So here’s the question:

🌱 If farming could provide a good income, modern technology and the chance to run your own business, would you encourage your son or daughter to choose agriculture as a career?

Running from 2 to 6 September, the festival includes activities in Kakuma Town and Kakuma Refugee Camp and explores a powerful theme:

Moving and Belonging.

Stories about identity.
Migration.
Home.
Community.
And what it means to belong.

At Engage Kenya, we love this because Kenya’s story is much bigger than its major cities. Every county, community and generation has stories worth hearing.

🇰🇪 WHAT WOULD YOU BUILD WITH KSH5 MILLION?

Some young Kenyans are turning problems we see every day into businesses.

Plastic waste into school furniture.
Banana stems into biodegradable packaging.
Mining waste into eco-bricks.
Even moisture in the air into clean drinking water.

Seven youth-led Kenyan enterprises recently shared KSh31.5 million through KCDF’s Young Innovators Challenge.

And the next round is open.

The programme is looking for young Kenyan innovators with ideas that can create real environmental and community impact. Applications for the current round close today, 31 August.

At Engage Kenya, we love stories like this because they remind us that some of Kenya’s biggest challenges can also inspire our next generation of entrepreneurs.
