A random message from the Landlord...

Just a random thought after we've have a fair few folk wander in of late saying they only found us by chance and never knew we were here. To all those reading this, we, (The Rock Inn), remain possibly one of the most hidden & unknown pubs in the leek/Staffordshire Moorlands area regardless of how much advertising we do, which we can assure you is frustrating to say the least, we've traded for 5 full years now since our refurb during covid and this seems to be a perennial issue so I thought I'd write about it...

We wonder if you were to randomly ask your friends or family that live within 20 miles of Leek, how many of them will have heard of us? How many have visited us at least once in the past 5 years? We suspect the numbers saying yes to both will probably be low. Since covid peoples habits have totally changed and people tend to stick to places they know, research by various groups including the morning adveriser (publicans rag) has shown this.

Not being directly on a main road has us at a natural disadvantage we know, how many people go up and down the main road (A53- Leek to Buxton road) on a daily basis zooming past & have no idea there is a pub just a few hundred yards away despite the big brown tourist signs?!? Indeed how many people visit the Roaches not realising there is a pub in the village which just so happens to be the nearest hospitality venue to the Roaches 🤔

In our growing experience signage seems to do very little these days to alert people about something new. It relies on people like those reading this to spread the word about us.

This is something I now ask you to do if you would be willing to help.. for small family businesses like ours need your continued support, we like other places rely on people walking through our doors to buy food and drink. Not just at weekends when we are busy but importantly for those weekday lunches & evening meals.

On the days we open (Wednesday to Sunday from 12pm), we are one of the only pubs that reliably serve food ALL DAY. Now that the busy summer holidays are over, tourists are leaving the area and everyone is back to a normal routine we are asking everyone simply not to forget about us.

Remember we're only 5 minutes from central Leek by car, 10 minutes from Longnor & 15 from Buxton.

Whether it be a casual pub lunch, evening family meal, meeting friends or even a date night we can be the casual pub venue for all situations and remember our food is home made. We even host large tables and groups (at select times) & can host buffet functions (see included photos).

🚨🚨TWO JOB VACANCIES 🚨🚨

We currently have two positions available for immediate start. You must be self reliant when it comes down to transport (car is the only effective transport to our location ST13 8TY) and be able to work the schedule on a reliable basis. Ideally we are looking for people with prior experience and have a positive, grown up, can do attitude. For both positions you must be a minimum of 18 years of age, mainly due to the work schedule & being around alcohol / sharp kitchen utensils.

1) KITCHEN PORTER - This ranges from pot washing, scrubbing hot pans & utensils, general cleaning, prep work to assisting the chefing team, scope for learning and progression with the right candidate once you've earned your stripes. Good attention to detail and high standards when cleaning is important. This is mostly a weekend position plus Friday evening (our busiest times) then other shifts can be offered on a business need week to week (26-32 hours a week). Would be ideal for someone looking to get into (or back into) the catering world for this position is where all chefs start.

2) WAITING ON (Deputy Host & Service Assistant) - This is a front of house position, the role encompasses a variety of tasks, greeting guests with a smile, taking drink and food orders, importantly running food and drink to the necessary table plus general front of house upkeep. We are looking for people with experience & maturity in their personality for this role, a good understanding of how a table service venue operates is important. Again this is mostly a weekend position plus a week day evening shift with scope for more on a business need basis (26-32 hours a week)
