On hold with Royal Fail/Parcelfarce - I'd been on hold for ten minutes before I started to film! 😩

This is something I've never had the opportunity to do, go through and play every Kai model one after the other, even though I have them all (all much, much more!) in my warehouse. Anyway, Alex from Southern Ukulele Store has saved me the trouble 😃.
So, sit back and strap yourself in for the full 29 minutes and 47 seconds immersive experience!
Seriously, if Kai is on your radar for a new ukulele (or even if it's not!) this is well worth a watch.
Every price point from £69 to £299.

We’re very sad to share this news. We handled RISA instruments in the UK for about 15 years, first coming into contact with Rigk at the much-missed Musikmesse in Frankfurt. I was looking for products to make my catalogue look interesting and RISA fit the bill. It’ll be a sad day when we clear the last instruments from our warehouse shelves 😢
Thank you RISA-Ukulele, you have our very best wishes for the future 😊

Liebe Ukulele-Community,

Euer RISA-Team

Kiwaya KSU-2 Soprano ukulele - New model arrived today!
A lovely little uke, an upgrade from the KSU-1, with 346mm scale length, 38mm wide nut, Japanese Gotoh tuners, abalone rosette, strap button on a laminate mahogany body, in a padded gigbag. This is part of Kiwaya’s Student series - we only got a few of these to try but I love it already! 💕

We don't like sharp fret ends - this can occur when the fingerboard wood dries out in transit and those metal fret ends can just be a bit uncomfortable. When we come across this, here's how we fix it.
Using a special file, we round off the corners, then use fine abrasive paper to smooth off, very fine wire wool to polish, before applying Boogie Juice fingerboard conditioner to finish the job!

WOW! I just got this on the bench. I wonder if anyone can tell me:
1. What brand?
2. What model?
3. What price?
I might reveal it in full later on, but only if anyone is in the slightest bit interested 😃

A decision has been made ...

A couple of weeks ago, we posted this photo, sent in by our friend Tania Opland, and asked for your suggestions for a collective noun for "a ------ of Pub Props"
Well, after much deliberation, discussion and burning the midnight oil, we've come to a final decision. We thank all the contributors for some great ideas, lots were funny, some were unpronouncable, but ...

The first prize of a Pub Prop mug goes to ... Paul Mitchener, who came up with "a SESSION of Pub Props"!

A special mention must go out to Gordon Farrell, whose sheer quantity of entries took up most of the decision-making time!

Please get in touch, Paul and Gordon, and we'll sort out your prize 😊

It was with great sadness that I learned, over the weekend, that my friend Ronny Bennett had passed away, following a period of ill-health.
I first met Ronny about 25 years ago while trying to find a supplier of lap steel guitars. I knew nothing of his illustrious and interesting past but, over the following years, I came to know him as a gentle, humble man who had been a quiet star of country music from the 1960s-1980s. He played pedal steel guitar in The Hillsiders, the first British country act to perform at the Grand Ol' Opry in Nashville, appeared regularly on British TV - Pebble Mill, George Hamilton IV's weekly TV show, and worked in a studio where Elvis was recording in the next room. Apparently Elvis asked to meet the band but, by the time Ronny's band had finished, Elvis had left the building!
Not only was he a great player, he turned his engineering mind to good use making his own instruments. I watched him working on these over the years, incredibly complex mechanisms including a keyless tuning system, each part manufactured by Ronny in his workshop on the Wirral. He supplied me with hundreds of lap steel guitars over the years and it was always a joy to visit him to pick up stock.
A little over 20 years ago, I had a phone call from a lady with a lovely Highland brogue. She asked me if I could give her Ronny's number, something I didn't usually give out. Sheena and Ronny's paths had crossed in the mid-1970s, while both were touring Scotland with their respective acts, and they became close, but their lives followed different paths until they reconnected all those years later.
Ron thanked me for passing on his number and announced that he and Sheena were going to get married, which they did in 2008. A move to a new house, and workshop, just outside Inverness, followed a little while later, and my visits became fewer but more special. I will never forget their hospitality and generosity, putting me up on my annual trips to the Highlands of Scotland, and sharing many stories of their lives in music.
Every morning, Ron would don his workshop coat and disappear to his shed for the day - making, repairing, fixing and tweaking instruments sent to him from all over the world, not just his own. He was a giant in his field.
I'll miss Ronny - the chats and his quiet wisdom - but I know that the last decades of his life were happy ones.
RIP Ronny Bennett (7th June 1942 – 21st August 2026)

Not sure which stomper to choose? Here's Howard from Logjam to run through the Travolg and the ProLog, two of our most popular models :-)
