Very well respected gent of the community & its wider circles… had many friends from the Mersey Docks & Harbour Board… along with All His Fishings Pals… A lot of them all passing together or at similar times… like the end of a truly golden era for that generation & crew… all beautiful people & Bob no exception… & absolute gent & will be hugely missed…
Very successful spell & much loved for his work & community efforts over many years at The Plasterers Arms too…
A Massive Rest In Peace from Everyone at The Lake, Hoylake…
Our station flag is flying at half mast following the sad passing of Bob Beech, a former volunteer crew member who had served on Hoylake RNLI lifeboat from the early 1960s to the early 1990s.
As a young boy, he had fished with Hoylake RNLI Coxswain Jack Bird, before training as an electrician with the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board. He later became a full-time fisherman, buying his first Nobby - a traditional fishing boat in the region - the “Amanda”. He owned many other fishing boats over the years, and fished all along the North West coast including out of Fleetwood.
Seafaring by profession, his skill, experience and knowledge were invaluable for helping to save lives on our coast when he joined Hoylake RNLI.
On retiring from fishing, in 1995 he bought a favourite local Hoylake pub, The Plasterers Arms, where he spent eight years as the landlord, continuing the “Plassies’” enduring connection with Hoylake Lifeboat Station.
In later years, Bob continued fishing locally and following a storm in 2019, which unfortunately sunk and wrecked his boat “Proper Job II” off Meols, the community rallied to fund a new vessel for him. This was a testament to the esteem in which he was held by those who knew him.
Bob was a first-rate fisherman, seafarer and friend. We are grateful for his service to Hoylake RNLI and he will be sadly missed by those who knew and went to sea with him. Our thoughts are with his friends and loved ones.
