The beautiful village of Horning has been connected to the River Bure for over 1,000 years.

In fact, the name Horning is believed to mean “the people who live on the high ground between the rivers”, a reminder of just how important the waterways have always been to village life. (Norfolk Broads Direct⁠)

Long before holidaymakers arrived on the Norfolk Broads, boats carrying goods, livestock and local people travelled these same waters every day. The rivers were the lifeblood of the community, shaping the village we know and love today.

Today, visitors can still enjoy those same stunning riverside views from The New Inn, watching boats drift past while enjoying great food, a refreshing drink and a little slice of Norfolk’s history.

A beautiful evening by the water, good company, and a traditional Sunday roast with all the trimmings. 🌅🚤

Sometimes it’s the simple things that make the best memories - watching the sun sparkle on the river, enjoying a delicious meal, and taking a moment to appreciate the peace around us.
