📍 From the Cellar: Trappist Rochefort 6 🍺🔥
This one’s a beauty. Brewed by monks since the 16th century, Rochefort 6 is a 7.5% Trappist dubbel packed with sticky toffee pudding vibes.
Think brown sugar, caramel, and that warm, fireside feeling. The kind of beer you sip slowly while watching the rain lash down outside.

We’re deep into Belgian beer territory now.
Next up: Westmalle vs. La Trappe — it’s Dubbel trouble.

Cask ale fact 🍺

The UK is one of the few places in the world where cask ale is still widely served.

It’s a genuinely unique part of British pub culture.

I expected Kölsch to taste like a standard lager… I was completely wrong 🍺🇩🇪

Smooth, floral, lightly hoppy and ridiculously drinkable.

In Cologne they serve it fresh, cold and fast — often from large casks behind the bar — and honestly, the more German beer culture I experience, the more similarities I see with proper British pub culture.

Simple beer.
Served properly.
In pubs built around conversation and atmosphere.

In this video I talk through:
• what actually makes Kölsch different
• why Cologne serves it the way it does
• how it compares to British cask ale
• and why I think it’s one of the world’s most underrated beer styles

We don’t currently have Früh in stock at the Old Cross, but we do still proudly serve both Gaffel and Reissdorf Kölsch 🍻

Chimney's being swept soon and Once that's done, the fire's back on for the winter. Dark nights, cold evenings, a proper fire and a proper pint.
It's nearly time.

Proper pints. No rush. No fuss. Just how it should be.

From mild to IPA, pale to best bitter — the styles rotate, the quality doesn’t.

This is what a pub looks like when it remembers why it exists.

“Ale and pretzel pieces.
Like a handshake between salty and smooth.”
Fancy snacks? Not here. Just proper beer, the crunch of a pub classic, and a corner with your name on it.

Swing by. No booking needed — just bring your thirst.
