📍 German Beer Style #6 – Augustiner Dunkel
Dark, smooth, and full of rich malt flavour—this beauty from Augustiner is number six in my top 10 German beer styles.

If you've only had their Helles, you're missing out. This is like drinking liquid bread, in the best possible way. 🍞🍺

Next up? Who knows. But it'll be a good one.

A proper honour from a proper brewery.
We were chuffed to welcome George from Timothy Taylor’s to the Old Cross — not just for a pint, but to present us with their Champion Club plaque, recognising the care and consistency we put into serving their classic pale ale, Landlord.

It’s always been about quality here — cellar work, line cleaning, and pulling every pint just right. This plaque is a nod to that effort, and to all of you who keep ordering the good stuff.

Thanks again, George — we’ll keep the Landlord pouring perfectly.

This was me in Augustiner Keller in Munich, enjoying one of those proper beer hall moments — good food, good beer, long tables and a room full of people doing it properly.

It’s exactly the sort of beer culture we love.

Something's coming to the Old Cross. ☘️

We've managed to get hold of a stout that's currently only pouring in a handful of pubs in the entire UK — mostly the big Irish pubs in London. Outside of Ireland, this is about as rare as it gets.

We're not saying what it is yet.

But if you know your stouts... you might already have a guess. 👀

This is what people THINK lager tastes like… 🍺🇩🇪

Sharp bitterness.
Clean finish.
Actually refreshing.

Not the Holsten that ruined my 20s.
Not the Efes that ruined my liver.

This one’s different.

Rothaus Pilsner — proper German pils done right.

And yes… “Tannenzäpfle” apparently means “little fir cones” 🌲

This seems to have divided the room already… 🍺🇪🇸

Madrí looks like a traditional Spanish lager — but it was actually created for the UK market around 2020 by Molson Coors.

Not brewed in Madrid.
Not an old Spanish beer brand.
And most people in Spain have probably never heard of it.

As a pub landlord, I genuinely find this stuff fascinating because modern beer marketing is a huge part of pub culture now.

But here’s the real question…

Does any of that matter if people enjoy drinking it? 👀
