Autumn has officially arrived at The Anchor 🍂🔥

The fire’s lit, the pumpkins are out and the pub is feeling extra cosy. There’s nothing quite like an old village pub, a proper open fire and a pint on an autumn day. ❤️🍺

Come in, get comfy and stay a while. ⚓️🍁

We’re sorry to share the sad news that our dear friend Wilf passed away peacefully on 9th September. ❤️

Wilf was a good friend of ours for many years — a long-time regular at The Swan and, a much-loved regular here at The Anchor.

Wilf’s funeral will take place at Hemel Hempstead Crematorium on Monday 28th September at 11.30am.

Afterwards, if you knew Wilf and would like to join us at The Anchor to raise a Guinness, a port, or whatever your favourite tipple may be in his memory, we would absolutely love to see you.

Let’s give a lovely man the send-off he deserves and share a few stories and memories together.

Rest easy, Wilf ❤️

Running a pub is pretty much a 7-day-a-week, 18-hour-a-day job, and getting away can normally feel impossible!

So a huge thank you to our amazing Anchor team for holding the fort and making it possible for us to have a much-needed weekend away. ❤️⚓️

And an extra special thank you to Sarah Twiggy Davis who really stepped up this weekend and made it possible for us to switch off, relax and know The Anchor was in safe hands. It meant more than you probably realise. 🥰

We might be the landlords, but The Anchor certainly isn’t just us. It takes a team to keep this little pub ticking — and we’re very lucky to have ours.

There is currently a proposal for Bourne End to become part of a new Hemel Hempstead Parish Council.

However, last night Berkhamsted Town Council voted to support Bourne End joining an extended Berkhamsted East Ward instead – IF enough Bourne End residents show their support.

❤️ We are closer to Berkhamsted, share boundaries and many of us feel it’s the more natural fit for our village.

As the nights start drawing in, we’re moving to our autumn hours.

From Monday–Thursday we’ll open from 1pm, with Friday, Saturday & Sunday still from 12 noon. 🍺

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came, entered, donated and supported us today. What a brilliant day for our little village!

Special thanks to Rebecca, our village vicar, for giving up her time to judge all the wonderful entries — and congratulations to everyone who went home with a certificate or medal! 🏅

Thank you to Dody & Clive on the BBQ, Emma & Sonya who worked their socks off keeping the drinks flowing, clearing the garden and tackling endless glasses, and Freddy & Greg for the fantastic live music. 🎶🍻

And a huge thank you to the Bourne End Village Association for helping make today possible.

Most importantly, YOU helped us raise an estimated £500+ for Great Ormond Street Hospital! ❤️
