We serve food all day every day with a menu that changes with the seasons. All our food is prepared fresh to order, and we work closely with our local suppliers to ensure you get the best quality that celebrates our amazing local and seasonal produce.

WE’RE HIRING | PART-TIME FRONT OF HOUSE

We’re looking for someone to join our front of house team at The Pack Horse.

This is a genuinely part-time role, ideally suited to someone looking for around 8–12 hours a week, mainly across Friday–Sunday, daytime and evenings, with the opportunity for additional hours during holidays and busier periods.

No experience necessary. Attitude and personality matter far more to us.

We’re looking for someone who is friendly, confident and good with people, but equally importantly has common sense, initiative and the ability to think on their feet. Someone who sees what needs doing and gets on with it.

We can teach you the rest.

Pay is minimum wage + an equal share of service charge across the team. Our service charge is good and on busy shifts can almost double your basic hourly rate.

You’ll be joining a small, hardworking team at our Michelin Guide pub in Hayfield, with a real focus on great food, drink and hospitality.

The Manchester Egg.

Not our invention, but a bar snack now completely synonymous with The Pack Horse.

What is it? Well that's the magic part. A soft-boiled egg which is then pickled, wrapped in black pudding and sausage meat, panko breadcrumbs and deep fried. Hot, still jammy and runny yolks, the pickle mingling with black pudding to form a hint of brown sauce flavour. It is the ultimate bar snack, and such is it's significance to the very identity of this pub that you can see it's influence on our new branding, courtesy of the genius of Natural Selection Design

10 YEARS.

Somehow, today marks 10 years since I took on The Pack Horse.

I was 24 when Emma and I took on a little village pub run on a shoestring. Ten years later, we've found ourselves in the Michelin Guide, Top 50 Gastropubs and The Good Food Guide. Still slightly ridiculous.

So, it feels like the right time to give the place some love and start its next chapter.

A new look, inside and out is coming. A new bar area that's nearly finished. And plenty more to come.

We'd have loved to unveil everything at once, but the reality of independent hospitality, cash flow and actually running the pub means it's happening bit by bit. Thanks for bearing with us, I promise it'll be worth the wait.

Underneath it all, it's still The Pack Horse. A village pub for a pint or a snack at the bar as much as a meal worth travelling for.

Thanks to everyone who's worked here, supplied us, eaten with us, drunk with us and kept coming back over the last decade.

Game season is upon us and we’re starting strong this year with our grouse offering- roasted on the crown and served with a crisp layered potato, damsons, blackberries and game sauce.

All our cask beers are also now priced at £5 or below and Al a Carte menu is available to bookings and walk-ins (subject to availability)
