We have just received this from Dogwood Productions which may interest many of you.
"We are working with one of the outstanding and exciting new voices on the wider folk scene, Clementine Lovell, who is composing and performing the music for our new show The Quiet Work. Touring in February and March 2027, the show is a ballad drama that tells the story of a remarkable Yorkshirewoman, Dora Walker, through the media of contemporary folk music and puppetry.

Find out more on www.dogwoodproductions.co.uk/the-quiet-work and look for Clementine’s music, including her new single If I had a Ribbon Bow, on Facebook, Instagram , her website https://www.clementinelovell.com and YouTube "

And do come to see the show when we are in Brigg (Thursday 18th March) and hear the new music in situ! Details of where and when on www.dogwoodproductions.co.uk/boxoffice

Sunday November 8th, our guest will be Harry Li. Harry is a singer-songwriter who draws on folk music traditions around the British Isles in his playing and writing. As well as performing traditional folk songs, he crafts original songs which have been inspired by folk music past and present. He is particularly influenced by the music and singing of Nic Jones, Jim Moray and Anne Briggs. This is Harry's third visit to Grimsby and he always gives us a great night so please come along and support him.

What a fabulous evening we had last night with Sarah Ironmonger and Brian Carter. They gave us an excellent set of songs, mainly comedy, and wonderfully written by themselves and accompanied by Brian on guitar, with a couple of Victoria Wood songs thrown in as well. The evening was opened with a fine set of songs from Arthur Knevett and John Connolly started the second half with a couple of his own brilliant compositions. We also had some excellent fiddle tunes from Ian Rushmer who hasn't played at the club for many years but please come back again soon, Ian. A great night once again. Next week is a Zoom night but our next guests will be the talented Harry Li on November 8th. Hope to see you all there.

This Sunday, join us for an entertaining evening with Sally Ironmonger & Brian Carter

Sally Ironmonger & Brian Carter have been writing, performing and bickering together for nearly 20 years.
They have produced 4 studio albums of songs about shipyards, prostitutes, trips to the seaside, self-deprecating amusing songs and protest anthems.
They have a quirky and distinctive style, with Brian’s unusual and accomplished guitar technique the perfect accompaniment to Sally’s unique voice. They love what they do, and their aim is to entertain, with songs that make you laugh, or cry, or just think.

Last night, Bryony Griffith & Alice Jones gave us a wonderfully entertaining and educational evening at the club. Accompanied by Alice on guitar or harmonium and Bryony on fiddle, they introduced us to many collectors of Yorkshire folk songs, especially focussing on the Frank Kidson collection (Alice's hero!) To complete this enjoyable evening, we had an excellent set from Jan and Paul Ramsey and a couple of fine songs from Arthur Knevett, one being a Ewan MacColl song which was a departure from his traditional ballads.
Next week's guests will be Sally Ironmonger & Brian Carter who, I'm sure will give us a brilliant evening. Do come along.

Sunday 18th October - Bryony Griffith & Alice Jones
As established solo artists, Bryony & Alice are no strangers to the folk scene. Hailing from West Yorkshire, both are long-time purveyors of English folk music, united by a fascination with local folk song collections inspired by the Yorkshire landscape, language and industry.

We had a brilliant night last night with Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman as our guests. Kathryn regaled us with a variety of songs, mostly her own excellent compositions, and accompanied herself on the keyboard with Sean doing terrific things on the guitar. It is about 20 years since they were last at the Grimsby club so let's hope it's not so long before they make a return visit. It was great to see Dave Start as MC for the night after a long absence and with Paul Bellamy and Lynn Haynes opening the evening with a lively set, the large audience all had a wonderful evening. Hope to see you all again next week when our guests will be Bryony Griffith & Alice Jones
