The Lismore Bar:

"Tastefully decorated in a modern manner that still recognises traditional Highland culture, the Lismore is a relaxed and laid-back bar. Live Scottish and Gaelic music is played every Thursday night..." So said no less an organ than The New Tork Times - not quite Partick's local paper! The Lismore is an institution; involved in its local community and a mainstay of Glasgow's annu

al West End Festival. Winner of the Scottish Licensed Trade News "Whisky Bar of the Year" in 2005, the decor includes specially commissioned stained glass depicting scenes from the Highland Clearances, a reference to the ancestors of many of the Lismore's regulars who were Highlanders and Western Islanders driven off their land and into the city in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Situated in Glasgow's bohemian Partick neighbourhood, the bar's eclectic mix of clientèle reflects the wide backgrounds of those who call Partick home.. At the foot of Byres Road by Kelvinhall Underground station, in recent years the former ship building hub has become synonymous with music, food and fashion. The Lismore's interaction with it's community sees its active involvement in the area's annual West End Festival and other neighbourhood events. "It's a village pub in a city. You get the feeling that everyone in there knows each other and the friendly bar staff make sure that you're greeted with a smile and Scottish charm." - yelp.com

"The Lismore Bar existed long before the resurgence of Partick Cross' bar culture, and will doubtless continue to do so long after it declines." - The List

Every Big Band fan in Glasgow (and probably in Scotland) knows June love. I first saw her singing In a pub off George Square called John Street Jam along with Kenny Paterson And The George McGowan Big Band and I have been a fan ever since.
She was Ninety last week and there was a birthday celebration for her with cake and candles in the Lismore Pub in Partick. So thank you to Manager Helen and all the staff and customers who made it a special day. Here is my wee tribute to a special lady.

June Love

June’s a singer
She’ll sing by day or night
In clubs and bars or ballrooms
To make you feel alright

She can sing the ballads
She can do the blues
No matter what you’d like to hear
She has a song that she can use
She’ll sing about her Secret Love
As sweet as Doris Day
Or make you shed a tear like Judy
About The Man That Got Away

She can be a wee bit Crazy
Just like Patsy Cline
Or even make you smile
With Ella’s Funny Valentine

She can break your heart
With a song that’s bittersweet
Or get you all up dancing
When she turns up the beat

Ninety years she’s been around
And I know this sounds dramatic
Could the secret of her longevity be
A picture in the attic?

So let us raise a glass
And make this heartfelt toast
To this cracking wee performer
That we all love the most

So Happy Birthday June
And we wish you many more
As you step up to the mic.
In the centre of the floor

Give us what you do the best
With every lovely tune
You’re brighter than the biggest star
But to us you’re just Wee June.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUNE
