Celtic are at home to Rangers today in their first meeting of the season. What? Last week? Nah, don’t remember that at all. Definitely didn’t happen. We’d have noticed. In fact, Celtic haven’t played any games in the last week. Nope. No idea what yr talking about. Yr clearly mental. 🥴

Aaaanyway, we’ve got it on the telly via the gracious blessings of our reptilian overlords over at Sky Sports, so if yr no’ at the game, come doon here and watch it through yr hauns with aw’ the rest of us. If yr are at the game, jump in after it. Nicky’s playing tunes, we’ve got loads of drink and it’s always a good time in here. Just varying levels of good time. Depends on a few factors.

🚨Happening Tonight But Not Here🚨

Nothing to do with McChuill’s, but if yr into yr punk rock and yr about the night, you should really be going to this. Two very good friends of the pub (to the extent they got fkn married here!) are hosting Mean City Fest, Glasgow’s only punk weekend with three days of music across three venues with legends of the scene, bands who have never played in Scotland before and homegrown favourites.

If that wasn’t enough, all profits from the whole weekend are going to a cause very close to our hearts, the amazing Beatson Cancer Charity, because they’re the best of people.

If that’s yr bag, go and support not just grassroots/underground bands/promoters, but live music in general, ‘cos it’s hard out there and getting harder all the time. And it’ll be mega as well, so it’s win/win.

🚨Just 16 Days To Go Alert!🚨

Coming up in just over a fortnight, we’re proud to welcome the return to McChuill’s of the Manchester-born virtuoso guitarist, composer, and cultural pioneer whose career cuts through some of the most iconic names in British music history - the legendary Aziz Ibrahim.

Aziz famously took on “the hardest job in the world” when he replaced John Squire in The Stone Roses in 1996, having already toured the globe as the lead guitarist for Simply Red. He subsequently became a core collaborator for Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown - Godlike Genius, co-writing and recording much of his solo catalog, while also working alongside legends like Paul Weller and Steven Wilson.

Born to Pakistani parents, Ibrahim’s playing style masterfully bridges two worlds, weaving Punjabi scales and reggae-funk rhythms into hard-edged alternative rock—a signature style he calls the “Asian Blues”. His landmark solo album, Lahore to Longsight, serves as a powerful statement of his artistry, featuring an all-star cast of musicians from The Smiths, Primal Scream, and The Stone Roses. Ibrahim remains a vital, compelling voice in British music, constantly pushing the boundaries of the guitar.

If that wasn’t enough, support on the night comes from the most excellent Transmission Suite.

This is going to be something really special, so don’t sleep on this one. 🙏🏻

🚨Happening Tonight In The Bar🚨

Anyone who’s been to any of the Lets Go Back crew’s Sunday Soundclash Raves here will know how much they encourage young talent by bringing them in for guest spots, so to keep that ethos going, we’re taking it further with a new idea here: Let’s Go Back2Back.

Each night will feature an LGB resident teaming up with a guest DJ who’s really knocked it out the park on a Sunday, with the first one tonight seeing our own Juan Maretune going head to head with one of the most immense DJs we’ve had so far, thee most-excellent Nae Nae.

He absolutely blew us all away on his debut last year, so much so that he was the only guest booked for the first weekend of Let’s Go Back’s 26th birthday all-dayers back in May.

Both DJs are as good as it gets, so having them both going B2B tonight is going to be something else and is an ideal start to what is going to be one of the best regular nights we’ve had here in McChuill’s for a long time. It’s going to be mega and you really don’t want to miss it.

We’re made up to say that the awesome Dughoose Ska Band will be making another appearance in McChuill’s this October! Every night we’ve had this mob has been an absolute riot, in the best possible way. From the minute they’re onstage to the very end, they they never fail to have the place absolutely bouncing and thus one will be no different. If you’ve seen them before, you’ll know what we’re talking about, but if you haven’t, you really need to get yrself down here on the night.

Expect classic Ska/2-Tone tunes by bands like The Clash, The Specials, Madness and The Beat, as well as some cleverly thought-out tunes from artists like Moby, Paolo Nutini and Van Morrison, coupled with some original material too. Yes, really. There’s nobody else quite like them.

Celtic FC are playing tonight in their first game in this season’s UEFA Champions League sorry UEFA Europa League, where they take on Ferencvárosi Torna Club at home. Yes, exciting stuff for sure. It’s on TNT Sports, so obviously we’ve got in on the telly in the bar for all you that aren’t at the game and for those of you that are, why not pop in on yr way there and/or back? It’s not raining inside the pub, it’s nice and warm, we have lovely staff ready to supply you with all the tasty beverages you could want* and we have the eternal champion that is DJ Nicky on tune detail, so you can expect to hear non-stop bangers either side of the game, for that is how we roll…

Speaking of bangers, those two Super-Duper Fitbaw Computers made a right baw of it the other day (tbf, they weren’t the only ones 🤦🏻‍♂️), so we’ve sent them off for a wee holiday to PC World to get their hardware upgraded. They’ve given us these Courtesy Computers** in the meantime, which…yeah. Okay. F**k it. Can’t do any worse than the last time eh? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Coming up next weekend, Let’s Go Back are going back to playing late, and we’re bringing Justin Robertson with us.

Emerging from behind the counter of the legendary Eastern Bloc records in Manchester, Justin soon became a recognised figure in the nascent acid house scene of the city. DJing at some of the city’s most celebrated spots, including the legendary FAC51 The Haçienda, as well as promoting two of Manchester’s most historically important nights, Spice and Most Excellent, where the The Chemical Brothers found their early inspiration.

The list of artists he’s been called upon to remix is ridiculously long, but perhaps Justice, Noel Gallagher, Steve Mason, Andy Bell, New Order, Paul Weller, Andrew Weatherall, Erasure, Happy Mondays, Björk and Fini Tribe and PBR Streetgang stand out, not to mention collaborations with folk like Daniel Avery, Brix Smith and Ashley Beedle to name but a few…

Justin isn’t just DJing for this one either, as he’s kicking off the night with Five Green Moons, his unique and mindblowing live set that sees incantations and Dubwise vibrations fused with angular guitars and skittering basement electronics to form a new entity.P

This is just the first of many parties we’ll be having in our new home at The Berkeley Suite and we know every one of them is going to be something special. Come and join us. We’d love to see you there.

Melting Pot x Lets Go Back To The ‘80s returns you to the discotheques of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. The clubs that started everything and kept it evolving, the decadent, creative and often leftfield parties without whom, club culture and electronic dance music today wouldn’t be the same if it existed at all.

From the cutting edge sounds of the original disco records that changed the very culture itself in the New York of the mid-70s, the then future-music that was Electro, Music Box Chicago and the mutant disco coming out of New York’s Paradise Garage, up through to the New Romantic pop of the Blitz Club and the tough Belgian Newbeat sound, via Italo disco, the era was full of classic records and we’re going to be squeezing as much of it into six hours as is humanly possible.

This is the sound of the real dancefloors from back in the day. Real disco, in all its forms. It’s going to be a proper party and you’re all invited.
