We first ventured into the food and drink business over 20 years ago while living in France. We spent 10 years running various hostelleries and auberges before returning to the UK in 1995. We managed several pubs for Whitbread before going it alone at The Malt Shovel just after the turn of the millenium. We serve food seven days a week, lunchtime and evening which ranges from a lunchtime snack to a three course meal in our restaurant. Visit our website for all our available menus and wine list: www.maltshovelgaydon.co.uk
We also cater for parties, breakfast before the races or a fishing party on the way to the coast! We are very conveniently placed just off J12 on the M40 and well signposted from the motorway. The village of Gaydon is perfectly situated between Stratford Upon Avon, Leamington Spa, Warwick and Banbury. The surrounding countryside offers a wealth of history, castles, canals and entertainment. The Royal Shakespeare Theatre is definitely not to be missed! The Malt Shovel dates back to the 16th Century but, unfortunately, we know little of its history. The original entrance door still exists and has been converted into a unique dining area. We would love to know more about the history of our pub so do let us know if you unearth anything.
