The Old Nags Head Edale

The Old Nags Head Edale The Old Nag's Head in the delighful Peak District Village of Edale is renowned as one of the 100 great pubs of England.

More famously the Old Nag's Head is the official start of the Pennine Way. The pub is friendly and cosy with original oak beams and open fires in winter. We offer:

Excellent hand pulled ales

Fresh homecooked food served all day

Families, walkers, dogs all welcome

The Old Nag's Head was built in 1577. To celebrate we have had our own beer brewed, aptly named 'NAG'S 1577'.

Another year, another amazing 🏃🏃‍♀️🛢️🍺

Well done to the organisers and for putting on such a brilliant event again! The whole village was buzzing and the event as chaotic and brilliant as ever.

As always, it didn’t stop there - the afterparty rolled on into the Nag’s, and things got suitably silly. Winners got their free winner’s ale (well earned) and we all enjoyed some amazing live music from 🎶🎸 and a spicy chicken challenge courtesy of Pete at Newfold 🌶️

When people have to sign waivers beforehand you know it’s bad 🥵

See you all next year!

The has begun and we hope you’re having lots of fun!

Join us afterwards at the Old Nag’s Head for the after party, where you can celebrate with tasty b**rs, food and live music starting at 8pm!

See you soon and good luck to all the runners 🫡🏃‍♀️

Seventy years ago, Tom Tomlinson and Fred Heardman (the then landlord of the Old Nag’s Head) organised the first training exercise of what would become Edale Mountain Rescue Team.

Last week, in true Edale weather ☔, we were proud to host the unveiling of a plaque celebrating the founding of the team 70 years ago, and the long-lasting connection between EMRT, the village, and The Old Nags Head.

The team still pass our door on the way to rescues on Kinder - and still stop in for a cuppa after, just as they did in 1956 ☕️

Huge thanks to Edale Mountain Rescue Team for letting us be part of this one, and for the life-saving work they do year-round, whatever the weather 🚁🚑🥾 Absolute heroes!

This hike has been named one of the best in the UK - and it ends right at our door 🥾

This is the Kinder Scout Circular walk in the Peak District. Starting from Edale train station, the route has been completed by more than 4,800 hikers and holds a perfect five-star rating, making it the UK’s favourite pub-friendly hike.

Thanks for the mention. Nothing like a well-deserved pie and pint after a cracking walk with stunning views 🥧🍻

On the bar this week: Deception by Abbeydale Brewery - 4.1%, £5.05 🍺

Sheffield folks, you’ll know this one! Abbeydale’s a Steel City stalwart, and Deception’s long been a fixture on bars across the city, so consider this your local pint away from home.

Light, refreshing NZ pale ale, built around Nelson Sauvin hops (think citrus, gooseberry, white grape) with Amarillo, Chinook, Galaxy and Columbus rounding it out for a crisp, bitter finish.

Well earned after a day on the hills 🍻🥾

And it’s not the only tasty cask on offer - swipe to see the full selection 🙌

More dogs of Old Nags to bless your feed! 🐾

Muddy boots and paws always welcome in our pub, even as the weather turns more windy and rainy!

Did you know you can order a sausage for your pupper too? 🐶

A proper hike deserves a proper feed 🥾

Hearty, traditional pub grub, portions the size of your head, washed down with a well-earned pint 🍺

Nothing better!
