📣Earlier this week, we were delighted to launch our new five-year strategy, shaped in partnership with our members, staff and trustees.

Over the next five years, we will work alongside communities across the UK to ensure community ownership continues to provide practical, sustainable solutions to the challenges facing rural areas.

As our Chief Executive, James Alcock, explains: “By strengthening community businesses, growing a stronger movement and continuing to evolve as an organisation, we believe rural communities can thrive, become more inclusive and build greater resilience.”

In an age of loneliness, meeting face-to-face matters more than ever. ❤️

We can message someone in seconds. We can video call a friend hundreds of miles away. We can scroll through hundreds of people's lives without speaking to a single one of them.

And yet, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics, almost 1 in 4 adults in Great Britain (23%) report feeling lonely often, always or some of the time. Among 30–49-year-olds, that rises to 28%.

That's why places where we can simply be together matter.

👋 A place where you can walk in on your own and find someone to talk to.
🏠 A place where you bump into a neighbour.
💼 A place where you can meet a friend after work.
🏡A place where a new resident can start to feel part of the village.
📖 A place where a book club, walking group, craft group or quiz team can come together.
📱 A place where you can have a proper conversation, not a WhatsApp conversation.

That's why we need the Oddies.

Because community doesn't happen online. It happens when we open the door, walk in and say, “Hello.” And that's the future we want for the Oddfellows Arms️

✨ A trip down Memory Lane! Check out this newspaper article about the reopening of the Oddies in January 2000 by Bob and Jan!

Whilst we definitely won't be able to beat those prices today (if only you could still get a three-course meal for £6.25! 😲🍽️), it's wonderful to look back at a special moment in the pub's history and remember what made the Oddies such an important part of our community.
