QUIZ & CARD GAME 28 Aug
Having trouble posting this for some reason - wrote it on Sunday🙄🤷♂️
It is that time of the month again where you put the kettle on, relax and settle down to read this long post about the latest quiz night! 😎☕️
I know it is long but if you do manage to get to the end you don’t mind it too much, please can you like and share, we would be really grateful. 😎
This month was probably the busiest we’ve had, with even more “newbies” attending — please keep spreading the word! The more the merrier… let us worry about the logistics! 😜😂
Once again, Dave Bloomfield sourced the questions, even though he was unable to attend, so his deputy stepped in and asked them on the night.
A little note on the questions… people have been asking for them to be a little less difficult, and Dave certainly delivered this month! Every team was competing right up until the very end, which made for a great quiz. 👏
The quiz was jointly won by “The Teachers” and “Jen Stanton’s” team — and both teams very generously donated their prize money to the Cottesmore Football Club Hike, which is happening next week. Thank you both! 💚 More about the hike later. 😜
We then moved onto the cards for the Higher or Lower game, with £300 up for grabs.
Up stepped Rob, who started with an Ace and confidently went “Higher”… only for another Ace to turn over! 🤯🙈
UNBELIEVABLE!!
(Just to clarify before any accusations are thrown around — the cards had been shuffled and cut several times by children before the game! 🤷♂️😇😂)
This does, of course, mean that another £25 goes towards our local charity fund. 💚
We have now raised £200, and Hannah is going to donate the money to Peppers, a safe space in Oakham, this Friday. Thank you to everyone who has contributed — I’m sure they will be incredibly grateful. 💚
We then moved onto a group game, but unfortunately there were no winners after two attempts, so we decided to move on.
Andy had very kindly donated a bottle of wh**ky to raffle in aid of the hike, so we played for that instead. 🥃
Unfortunately, the next winning ticket was held by children,so we played for £20 instead.
Isla May and Colbie, despite their young years, stood up confidently and were certainly not overawed as they showed the adults how it’s done and “Smashed it!” 👏😂
Well done, guys — you absolutely deserved to win! I hope you spend the money on whatever rubbish you like… sorry, Mum! 😜😂
We had another two attempts to win the wh**ky, with Jimmy and Debbie AKA Norman Stanley Fletcher (if you know, you know! 😜😂💚) both having a go — and both being unsuccessful! 🙈
All in all, another thoroughly enjoyable night (hopefully! 😂), and a massive thank you to everyone who supports us and puts up with all the poor jokes and banter. I enjoy it, even if nobody else does! 😆😎
As usual, a huge thank you to Dave, who, despite being on holiday, still made sure all the questions were done. Please don’t mention the Roquefort cheese question… 🙈😂
The questions are something Dave completes in his spare time and are certainly not a five-minute job, so we really do appreciate the effort he puts in every month. 💚

This is also why we really need to know numbers before the event. If possible, please have all food orders in by Wednesday evening at the latest.
If we have the majority of numbers by then, we can sometimes squeeze in a few latecomers — so please always ask! But having the numbers by Wednesday makes things so much easier and, more importantly, much less stressful for both Hannah and me. 😜
💚 LOCAL CHARITY NEEDED 💚
We’re also looking for suggestions for a LOCAL charity that we can support if the jackpot continues not to be won.
The plan is to donate £25 a month for six months, so if you know of a local charity that would benefit, please let us know.
Just to clarify why Peppers received £200 this time: one of the quiz winners generously donated their winnings, and McNeills then made the amount up to £200. 💚
As always, thank you to everyone who comes along, supports us, laughs at (or politely tolerates!) the banter and helps make these nights what they are.

If anyone is willing and able to donate towards next Sunday’s hike, which is being undertaken by the football club management and committee (including Steve & Hannah), along with a 10-year-old lad, please find the donation link at the end of the article.
All money raised will go towards the running and upkeep of our football club. We currently have an Under 8s team, an Under 18s team and a senior team, so there is plenty to keep the club going!
Our facilities are looked after by three extremely hard-working VOLUNTEERS — Allan Westray, Kev Ash and Rob Lewin, who give up their time to keep everything within Westray Park in such a great condition.
We’re hoping the funds raised will not only help in the day to day, week to week running of the club but also help towards things such as diesel for the mower, line-marking materials, paint, servicing of equipment and general maintenance.
It’s certainly not cheap to run a football club, especially a small village club, but we do our very best to keep it going and provide football for our community.
Any donation, no matter how big or small, would be hugely appreciated. Thank you for your support! ⚽️💚
