🥪 New on the menu — Hunters Chicken Ciabatta!

We’re still tweaking, expanding and generally figuring out just how much food we can reasonably tempt you with, but this one has made it onto the menu:

🍗 Hunters Chicken Ciabatta — £10.95
🍟 Add a side of chips — £4

Warm ciabatta, loaded Hunters Chicken, a bit of salad on the side, and enough to properly sort you out before settling in for a few hours of games.

And, as always, Board & Bean members get 10% off. 💚

We're loving how busy Board & Bean has been lately, especially with half term now upon us! 💚

But there's one little thing we need to remind everyone…

Please book your tables in advance!

We've had quite a few people popping in without bookings recently, and while we always try to squeeze everyone in, we've unfortunately had to turn some people away when we're already full.

And nobody wants to get excited about an afternoon of games, only to discover there's nowhere to sit! 😅

Walk-ins are absolutely welcome when we have space, but particularly during half term, weekends and busy evenings, we'd really recommend booking ahead.

It only takes a moment, and it means we'll have a table ready and waiting for you.

✨📚 A little bit of bookish magic at Board & Bean!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us last night for our ACOTAR gathering! It was lovely seeing so many fellow book lovers together, sharing the excitement (and perhaps a little impatience 👀) for what's to come.

A big thank you as well to Silent Book Club Chesterfield and The Chesterfield Romantasy Book Club for helping bring everyone together! 💚

And for those who carried on to The Griffin’s Library and Waterstones Chesterfield opening at midnight, we hope you had a fantastic rest of the evening!

If you didn't already know, Board & Bean is home to multiple book clubs, and we're always happy to welcome more. Whether you're a fantasy fanatic, a romance reader, or just looking for some fellow bookworms to share your latest obsession with, there's plenty going on here beyond the board games.

🍳 Breakfast at Board & Bean!

We’re opening earlier, which means there’s now something else you can do at a board game café besides spend six hours arguing over cardboard…

Eat breakfast.

From 08:00 Monday–Saturday (and 10:00 on Sundays), we’ll be serving breakfast every day until 12:00.

We’ve got:

🥓 Small & large cooked breakfasts
🌱 Vegetarian breakfast
🥪 Bacon, Cumberland sausage or veggie sausage ciabattas
🍞 Toast, beans on toast & toasted teacakes
🥣 Cereals
☕ And, obviously, plenty of coffee to make mornings slightly more tolerable.

Board & Bean members also get their usual 10% discount.

So whether you’re starting the day with a full breakfast, grabbing a bacon ciabatta and coffee, or apparently fancy playing board games at 8am… we’re here.

⚡ We’re closing at 17:30 today!

Severn Trent — bringing water, taking power.

During works today, a Severn Trent shovel managed to find one of our power supply cables.

Apparently there was a rather impressive BANG, followed by the discovery that the cable had actually blown a hole in the shovel.

Which, to be fair, is one way of locating it.

We’ve spent the day limping along on half power — some lights, half a kitchen and, most tragically of all, no b**r taps.

National Grid now need to shut down the supply to the street and surrounding businesses so they can properly repair the damage, which means we’ve got no option but to close early.

Apologies to anyone whose plans this disrupts.

Normal service will resume once we possess the full complement of electricity normally expected of a modern building. ⚡

👋 We’re hiring at Board & Bean!

Now we’re settled into our new home, we’re looking for a couple more people to join the team.

We’re currently recruiting for:

🍳 Cook / Back of House
Helping us keep the kitchen running, preparing food and generally making sure people get fed.

☕ Front of House
Serving customers, making drinks, helping people with games and being part of the general organised chaos that is Board & Bean.

Both positions are 18+, and we’re open to part-time or full-time hours depending on the candidate.

Experience is useful, particularly for the kitchen role, but finding the right people for the team matters just as much.

If you’re friendly, reliable, comfortable in a busy environment and fancy working somewhere slightly different, we’d love to hear from you.
