The year was 2022. We had just picked up the keys to what would be the future Planet Caravan. I was running a giant c**t of a venue in Reading. Ben was running a smaller, but arguably even more c**ty one in Oxford. The crying/sad snap chat filter filled my days with joy. We had just been to see The Killers where Ben stood stony faced throughout and then declared at the end “yeh it was fine”…we had no idea what the next 4 years would bring.

4 years. FOUR. WHOLE. YEARS. Christ do we feel lucky to be able to say that. And we have you to thank. Each and every one of you who shows up each week. We wouldn’t be here still without you. We are endlessly grateful (except maybe Ben who would like to be retired by now if we’re honest…).

Hiya! 👋 Thought we should post to say HI THERE we’re still here…! Frankly the last month has been a bit of a s**t show/bin fire/drama filled cluster f**k…it all got a bit much. So socials had to take a back seat. Owning your own business is a lot. Something had to give.

BUT we’re out the other side now. Into the tail end of May (how did that happen) + onto summer opening times of Thursday to Saturday.

I feel like we owe you a bit of an explanation for the reduced opening times + I’ll be completely honest…we’re not in a position where we can open for shifts where we might break even anymore.

The cost of living is very very real. Hospitality is very very hard at the moment. The Wednesdays and Sundays are the first days that drop off a cliff when it’s sunny…or when it’s half term…or when there’s a jazz festival in town…or even just when people want to save a couple of quid by not going out because they’re out already the rest of the week.

So for the summer we’ve called time on Wednesdays and Sundays. I don’t want to have to cancel staffs hours at the last minute. I don’t want to spend 4hrs preparing food for it all to go in the bin. And frankly we can’t afford to have days that make a loss because otherwise we’re scrambling the rest of the week to make up for it.

So instead we’re going HARD on the days we’re open. We have more time to plan for more events. More energy to go full pelt when we are open. And more ideas than ever to execute.

This bank holiday it’s balls to the wall…

Life has been a lot like this lately. Arse over tit behind the glass washer trying to disconnect the leaking waste pipe which broke 17 minutes after an engineer fixed a different fault on it.

Far from glamorous + certainly leaving no time to take + edit lovely staged photos for social media. NEVER FEAR we’re still here. Slow cooked BBQ meat. Ice cold Lageritas. And always a banging draft beer range.

Heads up our summer opening times are in effect from next week so we’re now only open THURSDAY TO SATURDAY evenings.

A million reasons behind that decision…both personal and business wise but I’ll go in to more details once I’ve caught up with my life admin…for context my camera roll at the moment…

We’ve also got Courteeners, my mums number one (she’s a BIG fan of Liam Fray 😂), and my Dad lent us this Sade album which is as fu***ng epic as ever
