The Thomas Tallis Ale House

The Thomas Tallis Ale House The Thomas Tallis is an ale house selling up to 30 beers in cask, key keg, bottle and can with wines, ciders and prosecco also available.
(329)

The Thomas Tallis Alehouse serves a wide range of beers from the cask, from key keg and in bottles and cans. We offer over 30 beers at any one time. The beer selection will constantly change as we seek new and exciting brews from around the world so don't get too attached to a particular beer! Alongside the beers we have a selection of great wines including from the fabulous Barnsole Vineyard at S

taple, near Ash. We also stock prosecco. Ciders also feature and will be showcasing the excellent cider makers of Kent and further afield. As with the beers the cider selection will change so you can sample the wide range that exists. We do not serve meals but we do sell Kent crisps and peanuts and will add Ashmore cheese and pork pies to the food offer in the near future. You will be assured a warm welcome in The Thomas Tallis but we ask that you do not use your phone to make or receive phone calls. We have no objection to texting, searching the internet or taking photos but a noisy phone will cost you a £1 fine which will be donated to the Pilgrims Hospice. We look forward to your visit and hope you enjoy your experience.

One of our favourite things about the Tallis is watching people discover it for the first time.

They stop outside, admire the old building, peer through the windows, take a photo next to the famously small front door, and then eventually wander in.

The rest is usually a pint and a story.

Tucked away inside one of Canterbury’s oldest buildings, you’ll find good beer, proper cider, wine, gin, board games, pork pies, scotch eggs, cheese and a pub that’s in no rush whatsoever.

If you’ve never been in before, we’d love to welcome you. If you’re one of our regulars, we’ll see you soon 🍺

After a week of rain, grey skies and everyone muttering “summer’s over” every five minutes… the sun’s finally back. ☀️🍺

Perfect timing, really.

Whether you’re celebrating the return of blue skies or simply making up for a week’s worth of weather-induced misery, we’ve got a seat with your name on it.

Half a pint, a whole pint, a cosy corner by the fire, or a sunny spot by the window. Happy Friday, Canterbury.

The daily Tallis dilemma:
“I know I want a pint… but which one?”

Luckily, indecision is something we cater for.

Three ⅓ pints, neatly lined up and ready for whatever mood you’re in - dark, pale, hoppy, crisp or somewhere in between. Why commit when you can sample responsibly? 🍺

Open today at 2pm.

Good beer, questionable team names, and the occasional argument over who was supposed to bring a pen. You know the drill.

🚫 Delayed Opening Today 🚫

Unfortunately the Tallis will be opening a little later than usual today thanks to another glamorous plumbing emergency. The toilet has once again decided it’s had enough, so we’re waiting for landlord Dave to work his magic before we can safely let everyone back in.

We’re hoping it’ll only be a couple of hours and we’ll keep you updated as soon as everything’s flowing as it should again.

In the meantime, feel free to leave your best toilet/plumbing/pub puns in the comments. Dave says he needs “something to keep morale up” while elbow deep in you know what.

Apparently it’s National Pub Day 🍺

As if we needed an excuse.

If you ask us, pubs are for slowing down a bit - good beer, proper conversation, comfy corners, board games, pork pies, dogs under tables and the occasional accidental “just one” turning into a whole evening.

The weather’s turned chilly again, so the fire’s on, the snug’s glowing, and the whole place is feeling particularly cosy today.

So if you fancy celebrating properly, you know where we are.

Just a little reminder that dogs are very welcome at the Tallis! 🐶

Water bowls? Of course.
Treats? Usually.
A suspicious amount of attention from landlord Dave? Almost guaranteed.

We like pubs the old-fashioned way: good beer, good company, and at least one dog asleep under a table somewhere.

(Children welcome too, as long as everyone behaves themselves.)

The yearly British tradition has begun:
sunglasses one minute, “should’ve brought a coat” the next.

Luckily, we’ve got you covered either way… sunny seats outside, cosy corners inside, and plenty of stout wherever the weather decides to go.

Sofas, stools, benches, church pews… somewhere in the Tallis is a spot with your name on it. Come find yours 🍺

Golden in colour, glowing in the sun,
A half pint enjoyed when the day is done.
No grand plans needed, no fuss, no tale,
Just a quiet seat outside and a proper pale.

Simple pleasures done properly. Open today at 5pm.
