we started our little adventure in 2019 when we decided to try our hand at keeping pigs , we wanted to give our animals the best most natural life possible which is why our pigs live outdoors in woodland & on pasture.

Rosè has the best story of all our pigs , how she got her name and how she came to be with us.

Last year our breeding went wrong and we didn't have enough pigs for Xmas, so we brought in some large whites, Rosè being one of them , they would be our Xmas meat but as always one caught justins attention.
Whilst out for lunch with our good friends at the sardine factory in looe we were discussing this large white that had potential to become a full time resident at happy wallow . Our friends were enjoying a glass of rosè ,we all thought it very apt we should give this pink pig the name rosè and so it stuck ☺️
Morning of loading all the pigs got on the trailer ,Rose was at the front with all the others blocking her way , justin said "its up to you rosè, you can stay or go with the others"
So she pushed past the others ,got out the trailer and that was that.
Rosè went to live with roger and lisa for a few months before coming back to us and having her first litter of piglets,,she is now entertaining Mr T fingers crossed for more piglets in the new year ☺️

Gentle giant Joyce

This is Joyce the photos dont do justice to how big she is , Joyce is a 6 year oxford sandy and black and mum to polly .
Joyce is semi retired because she's a bit special 😆 so our Joyce is a very delicate individual she's scared of everything, doesn't like boys apart from justin ,she loves justin 🥰
She has huge floppy ears ,most pigs learn to lift their head which moves their ears so they can see , Joyce never learnt this ,she likes to pretend she's blind 🤦‍♀️ so she walks till she hits something ,screams and runs away 😂in doing this she has learnt her boundry, she has a lovely big pen in the woods and knows where the fence is and every tree .
Joyce is semi retired because she will not leave her pen to visit Mr T , even if she did she would only run away from him because hes a boy and boys smell 😂 Mr T can not go into the woods to visit her because Nugget lives in the woods and we can not risk Mr T getting at her.
Its been a long time since Joyce has had a litter so we dont know if she's able to anymore but we have ai'd her recently in hope of her having babies again 🤞 if she doesn't thats fine ,she will live out her days with us making her pet pig number 2 , if you ever meet Joyce you would understand why we love her so much ,she's just a gentle soul living her best life ,enjoying her own space and enjoying cuddles with justin , she still trys to sit on his lap and as you can see in one of the photos she loves to go through his legs lifting him off the ground 😂

Who started our journey and why she's retired.

This is Nugget ,she is a 7 year old oxford sandy and black x Tamworth, she came to us in 2019 with her sister Dotty and a few other weaners , they were being reared for meat , Nugget was the runt of the litter ,justin said she looked like a golden chicken nugget so that became her name , justin quickly got attached to Nugget and decided he was going to keep her , I didn't want to be left out so I insisted if he was keeping a pig so was I 🤣 we kept her sister Dotty .
Nugget is short ,fat and spoilt not a good combination for breeding , she had a few litters that went well , and then things started to go wrong for her , she can no longer farrow without assistance which is no good for her health .
So she is retired , living in the woods and costing us a fortune 🤦‍♀️ but she's Nugget ,she is the one that started our happy wallow journey , she has a special place in justins heart and a perminant place on his backside 😂 (he has a tattoo of her ,his little butt nugget 🤭🤣)she is loved by all and loves human interaction so much so she identifies as human 😂, has no time for other pigs and let's them know about it .

What we do and why we won't compromise on how we do it .

This is Polly , she's an Oxford sandy and black and daughter to our gentle giant Joyce and our first boar Albert.
Polly lives in the woods alongside semi retired Joyce and fully retired Nugget ,out in the field we have Mr T our boar who is currently entertaining Rosè. We also have fatteners in the woods and in another field.
When we started on this journey we visited other pig farmers to see how they were doing it ,we decided if we were going to start keeping pigs it would be outdoors in as natural environment as is possible without the pigs running riot through the lanes and beyond .
We chose rare breed and x breed because these are slower growing and more adapted to living outside , they have arks to sleep in and stay out of the rain and large pens to graze.
The piglets stay with the sow until they are 8 weeks old giving them the best possible start and the teachings only the sow can give , we are gentle in our approach to weaning , so as to not cause stress to the sow, her weaners or us , we let the pigs do things at their pace, again so we dont cause them stress, we do not castrate males ,we not use nose rings ,what we do do is give them the best lives we can in the most natural environment possible .
Our pork can be months between each fresh batch but its worth the wait , we could have it more regular but that would mean changing everything we do and keep the pigs in small sheds so they grow quicker , we will not do that, we will not compromise on that ,if we did we would just give up , its more then meat on the table ,its enjoying seeing our animals live their best most natural lives 😄
