Sundays are funny things.

All week people tell themselves they’ll cook a proper roast.

Then Sunday arrives, the potatoes need peeling, the washing up starts multiplying, and suddenly letting someone else do it sounds like a fantastic idea.

That’s where we come in.

🍽️ The Dog & Donkey’s Carvery That’s Not a Carvery
📍 Served from 12:00–15:30 (or until we run out!)

Choose your meat, then we’ll bring it all to your table with plenty of roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, Yorkshire puddings and gravy.

No queueing. No balancing plates. No fighting over the last roast potato.

Just a proper Sunday roast in a proper village pub.

Food starts from 16:00, the drinks are cold, and there’s plenty of room whether you fancy sitting in the sunshine, finding a shady corner, or hiding indoors pretending you’re not checking the weather forecast every ten minutes.

No big sales pitch. No gimmicks.

Tomorrow afternoon it’s a big one.

🏉 Bath v Exeter Chiefs 🏉

If you’re looking for somewhere to watch the game with a pint in hand and a bit of atmosphere, we’ll have it on at The Dog & Donkey.

For the Bath supporters, the Exeter supporters, and those who just enjoy watching large humans run into each other at alarming speeds, we’ll have the rugby on and the bar ready.

As always, we’re a pub doing pub things. Watch the match, have some food, enjoy a drink, or grab a quieter corner if rugby isn’t your thing.

🎤 KARAOKE THIS SATURDAY – FROM 8PM 🎤

There are two types of people in this world.

Those who confidently grab the microphone and belt out a power ballad like they’re headlining Glastonbury…

…and those who spend three hours saying, “I’m not singing tonight” before somehow ending up halfway through Sweet Caroline with a pint in one hand and a crowd joining in.

This Saturday at The Dog & Donkey, it’s karaoke night from 8pm with the brilliant Essential Karaoke.

No judges.
No pressure.
No auditions.
Just a proper pub doing pub things.

Whether you’re a seasoned performer, a shower singer, or simply want to sit back, have a drink and enjoy the entertainment, there’s room for everyone.

Food served earlier in the day, the drinks will be flowing, and by about 9:30 someone will almost certainly be attempting a song that was never meant to be attempted after four pints.

And honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

What a terrible dilemma.

Do you come out for food?

Do you come out for football?

Or do you come out because someone else cooking and doing the washing up sounds like a fantastic idea?

Fortunately, you don’t have to choose.

We’re open from 4pm, with food served from 4pm, and later tonight England take on Costa Rica at 9pm in their latest friendly.

Fancy a burger? We’ve got you covered.

Fancy fish and chips? No problem.

Fancy sticky BBQ baby back ribs that require at least three napkins and a complete disregard for dignity? We’re ready.

And if football isn’t your thing, don’t worry. We’re still very much a pub doing pub things, not a sports bar. Plenty of space to enjoy a meal, enjoy a drink and put the world to rights without having to watch every kick of the ball.

The garden’s looking good, the beer’s cold, and the kitchen team will be firing things up from 4pm.

There are two types of people on a Sunday.

The first group wake up full of ambition.

"Today," they say, "we shall sort the garage. We shall clean the car. We shall become organised adults."

The second group wake up and think:

"I could absolutely demolish a roast dinner."

We know which group usually wins.

So this Sunday 7th, from 12:00, the Carvery That's Not A Carvery returns to The Dog & Donkey.

Why is it called the Carvery That's Not A Carvery?

Because you don't queue up behind someone carefully calculating the structural limits of a Yorkshire pudding.

You don't stand there balancing a plate while trying not to spill gravy down your jumper.

And you don't get judged for wanting more veg.

Instead, we bring it to your table.

Proper roast meat. Proper roast potatoes. Yorkshire puddings. Gravy. Mountains of vegetables. The sort of food that makes you lean back afterwards and wonder if moving again is really necessary.

It's Sunday dinner the way Sunday dinner should be.

No rush.No stress.No washing up.No finding out halfway through cooking that you've forgotten something important.

Just good food, good company and a proper village pub doing what village pubs have always done.

The fire won't be lit because it's June, which is probably for the best.

The garden will be waiting if the sun behaves itself.

The bar will be stocked.

And somewhere in Knowle a Yorkshire pudding is preparing for its moment of glory.
