Proper Sunday roasts, with tables bookable from 12:00 right through to 15:00 — or until we sell out.

So if you want a roast, get yourself booked in. Once they’re gone, they’re gone!

And if someone in the family commits the terrible crime of not fancying a roast, we’ve got a few favourites from the normal menu available too — pizzas, Hunters Chicken, beef or veg lasagna and burgers.

Summer’s had its turn. The nights are drawing in, the gravy boat has been located and it’s time to get back to some proper Sunday pub food.

Our Sunday Roasts are BACK. 🙌 Beef, Turkey and chicken along with our Vegetarian option this week.

Proper roast dinners, proper gravy, roasties, veg and all the bits that make Sunday feel like Sunday.

No tiny artistic smear of gravy.
No three peas carefully positioned with tweezers.
No plate that leaves you wondering whether you accidentally ordered the starter.

Just a good, honest Sunday roast in a proper pub. ❤️

And this time we’re doing Sundays a little differently…

We know not everyone fancies a roast, so we’re also keeping a few favourites from our normal menu available.

🎺 LIVE JAZZ AT THE DOG AND DONKEY — AND THIS ONE IS A BIT SPECIAL. 🎺

On Wednesday 30th September, we’re welcoming one of the most in-demand trumpet players on the scene to The Dog And Donkey.

JONNY BRUCE — LIVE.
🕖 19:00–21:00

This isn’t background jazz while you quietly finish your chips.

Jonny Bruce is an absolutely phenomenal trumpet player whose career has taken him from Ronnie Scott’s to the Royal Albert Hall, playing alongside some seriously impressive names including Fred Wesley, P*e Wee Ellis, Art Themen, The Wailers, McFly, Roni Size, Hamish Stuart, Kelis, Emma Smith, Clare Martin and Clare Teal.

His trumpet has been heard on film and television, including the BBC series The Outlaws, and he’s performed at venues and festivals across Europe.

And on Wednesday 30th September…

he’s playing in our little pub in Knowle. ❤️

That’s exactly the sort of thing we want to keep doing here.

Brilliant musicians. Proper live performances. Good food. A room full of people. And the chance to see artists you’d normally expect to travel considerably further to watch.

After an amazing turnout for the quiz night, we move straight onto the weekend… and Saturday night means Essential Karaoke Disco at The Dog And Donkey. 🎤🍻

This Saturday 12th September from 20:00, Essential Karaoke are back with us for another proper Saturday night of big songs, questionable song choices, enthusiastic backing singers and the occasional performance that nobody saw coming. 😂

Whether you’re the one grabbing the microphone, the one being talked into it after two songs, or the one quite happily staying at the table and judging everyone else — you’re very welcome.

No pressure to sing. Just come along, enjoy the atmosphere and spend Saturday night with us.

And if you want to make an evening of it, food is served all week from 16:00, and 12:00 on Saturday, so get in earlier, grab some food and settle in before the karaoke starts.

🎶 SOMETHING A BIT SPECIAL IS HAPPENING AT THE PUB ON TUESDAY 8th September … 🎶

Before they head off to St Peter’s Church for their evening charity concert, the brilliant Armonico Consort are coming to spend the afternoon with us at The Dog And Donkey — and they’re going to sing for us!

They’ll be here from 15:00 on Tuesday 8th September, giving us the chance to hear these incredible professional voices in a setting rather different from their usual concert halls. 😁

No stage. No formalities. Just world-class singers, in a proper pub, doing what they do best.

So if you’re free Tuesday afternoon, come and spend some time with us. Grab some food, find a table, and enjoy something you really don’t get in the pub every week.

And afterwards, if you fancy the full experience, their Great Bike Challenge Charity Concert starts at 6pm at St Peter’s Church, Budleigh Salterton, alongside the Budleigh Salterton Ladies Choir and Male Voice Choir.

🍺 fancy working in a proper pub? 🍺

We’re looking for a FULL-TIME BAR PERSON to join us at The Dog And Donkey.

Now, we could write the usual job advert about being “passionate about hospitality” and “thriving in a fast-paced environment”…

But this is The Dog And Donkey.

Some days you’ll be pulling pints and chatting to the regulars. Other days there’ll be a garden full of people, food flying out of the kitchen, a quiz kicking off, someone murdering Sweet Caroline at karaoke and a bulldog wandering around wondering why nobody has fed her for at least seven minutes.

That’s pub life. And we love it.

We want someone who enjoys people and isn’t frightened of a bit of graft. Someone who can have a laugh with the customers, spot what needs doing without always being asked and muck in with the rest of us when it gets busy.

Experience is great.

But we’d rather have the right person with the right attitude than someone with twenty years behind a bar who doesn’t actually like people, that’s the landlords job and it’s already taken.

This is a proper full-time job, not just the occasional Saturday night shift. There’ll be evenings and weekends, quieter shifts and absolutely bonkers ones.

In return, you’ll become part of a small, family-run team and a pub where our customers aren’t just numbers walking through the door.
