St George's Bristol

St George's Bristol Independent live music, ideas and events venue in the heart of Bristol. Classical | Folk | Root

St George's Bristol is one of the country's great concert halls with a tradition of presenting world class artists in its intimate setting. A former Grade II listed Georgian church set within its own secluded gardens, is truly a hidden gem. Classical, Jazz, Folk, Roots, Spoken Word and Family Events take place throughout the year.

At the heart of our hall sits our Steinway grand piano, chosen with the help of internationally renowned pianist Paul Lewis.

Since then, it has been played by countless artists on the St George’s stage and is regularly serviced and cared for by Steinway technician Ulrich Gerhartz, helping to keep it concert-ready throughout the year.

And there’s a lovely full-circle moment coming up very soon, as Paul Lewis returns to St George’s on Friday 25 September for the next concert in his four-part Mozart + series.

The programme brings together Mozart, Schubert and Chopin, played on the very piano he helped us choose.

šŸŽŸļø Tickets are available now.

This year, St George’s is fifty šŸŽ‰

To celebrate 50 years of concerts at St George’s, we’re sharing 50 things from our history, from memorable moments and hidden details in the building to objects that tell a story about our past.

First up: the gold star in our concert hall ⭐

It marks the spot where an incendiary bomb came through the roof during the Bristol Blitz in 1941. Today, we keep the star lit during performances for good luck, and it’s even inspired things like our Star Circle membership and Rising Stars programme.

And yes, we still have the remains of the bomb at St George’s today.

And with the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta beginning this Friday, why not watch the evening mass ascent from nearby Brandon Hill, then wander down to St George’s for a post-balloon drink? We’ll be open into the evening! šŸ»šŸŽˆ

The Friday mass ascent is scheduled for 6pm and is weather dependent, so keep an eye on the Balloon Fiesta’s channels for updates.
