VAT’s The Problem 🍻
I don’t normally get involved in political campaigns, but this one matters.
The Gloucester Old Spot has been part of our lives for almost 12 years. We’ve poured everything into this pub, countless hours, sleepless nights, huge risks, and a lot of love. We’ve raised our family around it, built an incredible team, and created a place that we hope feels like home to so many of you.
But the truth is, hospitality is in a really tough place right now.
Every week we’re seeing more pubs, cafés and restaurants close their doors. Places that are full of character, employ local people, support local suppliers, and sit at the heart of their communities. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Hospitality is an amazing industry. It creates jobs, brings people together, gives young people their first opportunities, hosts life’s biggest celebrations, and provides a place where communities connect. Yet we’re taxed more heavily than many of our European neighbours.
That’s why I’m backing Tom Kerridge’s campaign. A reduction in VAT for hospitality could make a huge difference to businesses like ours and help protect the pubs, cafés and restaurants that make our communities what they are.
If you’ve ever enjoyed a pint with friends, celebrated a birthday, had a Sunday roast with family, or simply appreciated having local independent businesses on your doorstep, I’d be incredibly grateful if you’d take a moment to sign the petition.
