A recent real experience at the fabulous, highly recommended The Falcon Steakhouse reminded us of our own recent experience that may or may not have happened ……

A food influencer may or may not have recently got in touch and told us that for £1,000, they could guarantee a post that would get 1,000 likes and tell everyone how great our cheese & onion rolls are.

We declined.

So instead, here’s a picture of S***k sat near the bar… judging a cheese & onion roll.

Just S***k… staring intently at a roll.

To be fair, S***k has been our official taste tester for while, turns up every day, works his nose off, and has probably eaten more cheese & onion rolls than most “influencers” have ever even seen — so if anyone deserves 1,000 likes and gets to decide what’s good enough for you, it’s him.

He’s the only quality control we’ll ever need. If S***k approves it, you know it’s proper.

Let’s prove that genuine local support beats paid-for engagement.

If this gets 1,000 likes I’ll buy S***k a banana (and maybe a pint too).

🐒 SCHRÖDINGER’S WORLD CUP

At The Red Monkey

We have made a decision: we will NOT be showing the World Cup at The Red Monkey this year.

Our real ale-focused pub has always been a haven for great conversation and proper quality drinks — and we intend to keep it that way, free from the distractions of the world’s biggest sporting event. Apart from that we have no screens 🤷🏻‍♂️.

However…

We are also pleased to announce: you CAN watch every single World Cup game here. 📱✅

There are just three non-negotiable rules:

1. 📲 Bring your own device

2. 🎧 Headphones are mandatory

3. 🤫 All reactions must be completely stifled — no cheering, no groaning, no shouting.

Clear? …We thought not.

What a weekend! 🤩🍻

S***k and the rest of the team are still recovering from our first ever Real Ale Festival — and what an incredible four days it was!

From midday Friday right through to Monday night, you guys turned out in force to enjoy the very best cask ales from near and far. We showcased everything from local Bristol gems to classics from across the South West and further afield, and it was brilliant to see so many of you enjoying the variety — especially our Golden Mild and dark strong ales!

Thank you so much for your kind words, your enthusiasm, and for supporting us in this big first step. It means everything to this little pub.

Special thanks to Camra Bristol & District, for the loan of glassware, and Lost and Grounded Brewers for the loan of some kit.

Of course it couldn’t have happened without the sterling work of our Gareth Thomas, and our latest recruit Caoimhe. Thank you.

We’ll be doing it all again — you can count on that! In the meantime, we’re here as usual, ready to serve you great beer and great company.

In the meantime any feedback will be greatly received. Let us know what we did well but just as important is to let us know what we can improve on. We’re striving to be the best version of ourselves we can be.
