This proper classic is the drink of legends… back in the day, folks sipped it chilled, mixed it with brandy, turned it into Snowballs with advocaat, or just enjoyed it exactly as it came.

What a weekend! 🤩🍻

S***k and the rest of the team are still recovering from our first ever Real Ale Festival — and what an incredible four days it was!

From midday Friday right through to Monday night, you guys turned out in force to enjoy the very best cask ales from near and far. We showcased everything from local Bristol gems to classics from across the South West and further afield, and it was brilliant to see so many of you enjoying the variety — especially our Golden Mild and dark strong ales!

Thank you so much for your kind words, your enthusiasm, and for supporting us in this big first step. It means everything to this little pub.

Special thanks to Camra Bristol & District, for the loan of glassware, and Lost and Grounded Brewers for the loan of some kit.

Of course it couldn’t have happened without the sterling work of our Gareth Thomas, and our latest recruit Caoimhe. Thank you.

We’ll be doing it all again — you can count on that! In the meantime, we’re here as usual, ready to serve you great beer and great company.

In the meantime any feedback will be greatly received. Let us know what we did well but just as important is to let us know what we can improve on. We’re striving to be the best version of ourselves we can be.

Like bacon, cabbage & potato flavoured music? 🍀🎻🍺

The Red Monkey beer festival continues this weekend and today is MUSIC day.

From 2pm, Gypsy’s Kiss will be bringing Irish Trad & Folk to Chandos Road. They’re enormous fun, take requests, and if you’ve got even a half-decent voice after a pint or two, you may find yourself on the mic.

Can’t make it till later? From 7pm we ramp things up with Mexican Dave — now proudly Bristolian — a punk-folk artist with a love of all things Irish, who also happens to host our monthly OPEN MIC night. He’s from Mexico 🇲🇽 … and his name’s Dave.

It’s not just real ale either — there’s a huge range of spirits, craft lagers, ciders, soft drinks and alcohol-free options behind the bar, alongside hot pasties, sausage rolls (from the pasty emporium, arches Nr Temple Meads) and a proper traditional pub snack selection ready to tickle the tastebuds.

Oh yeah… the Guinness is as good as anywhere in Bristol. Trust me.

🍻 Just one more sleep ‘til our Real Ale Festival @ The Red Monkey!

We’re all set and ready to go — 31 amazing cask ales lined up (max 12 at a time), from refreshing pales and classic bitters to rich, dark favourites.

Join us from Friday 22nd May, 12pm right through until Monday 25th May, 11pm (10pm Sunday).

📍 Chandos Road, Redland, Bristol, BS6 6PF

Helping to celebrate CAMRA’s “Mild May”, we have two Milds in our starting lineup: a rare golden mild from Fresh Standard Brewery in Nailsworth called “Golden Mild” at a very sessionable 3.8%, plus “Martha’s Mild” — a more heady, dark ruby red at 5.3%.

In true festival style, we also have some special vintage festival glasses ready to serve you fantastic ales all weekend long!

Counting down the hours… see you at the bar! 😁

Dark ruby porter and perennial favourite from our good friends @ Cheddar Ales.

Martha’s Mild 5.3%
Sweet, dark, ruby red mild, rarely seen in these here parts. Shipped up from Newton Abbot this is a timely reminder from Teignworthy Brewery Limited, that a good mild is as good as any ale that’s out there. Happy “Mild May” everyone.

Old Toby 5%
A smoked porter from the creative ABC arm of Vale Brewery, Bucks. Specialising in one-off, limited run beers you need to catch this one whilst you can.

ON THE BENCH (and likely to be making and appearance)

Tally Ho! 5.5%
A multi-award winning dark strong ale from the family run Palmers Brewery in Bridport, Dorset. Another cracking dark that is rarely seen in Bristol.

We’ll be updating you with or starting bitters soon but in the meantime you can browse our long list here ….
