📚✨ A NEW BOOK HAS ARRIVED AT ROMALANDIA! ✨📚

We’re excited to welcome a beautiful new addition to the Romalandia library — Rainey the Romany by Elijah Vardo. ❤️💙💚

With the most beautiful illustrations, Roma-inspired imagery and a wonderful celebration of identity and culture, this lovely book is a chance for children to step into the world of Rainey and explore a story connected to Romani heritage.

Children deserve to see themselves, their families, their culture and their heritage reflected in the stories they read. When children see positive representations of who they are, it can help build pride, confidence and a sense of belonging.

🕯️ REMEMBERING TONY GATLIF 🕯

Tony Gatlif, the acclaimed filmmaker whose work brought Roma culture, music and stories to audiences around the world, has died aged 77.

Born Michel Dahmani in Algeria in 1948, Gatlif was the son of a Kabyle father and a mother of Roma heritage. He went on to become one of the most important filmmakers to place Roma lives and culture at the centre of international cinema.
His films explored themes of identity, freedom, music, belonging and life on the margins.

Among his best-known films was Gadjo Dilo (1997), which follows a young Frenchman travelling through Romania in search of a Roma singer. The film became an international success and helped introduce audiences around the world to Roma music and culture.

Before Gadjo Dilo, Gatlif made Latcho Drom (1993) — a remarkable journey through Roma music across different countries, from India towards Europe and Spain. The film won the Un Certain Regard award at Cannes.

He later directed Exils (2004), which won him the Best Director award at Cannes.

Gatlif directed around 25 films during a career spanning five decades, repeatedly returning to Roma culture, music and the experiences of people living outside the mainstream.

His family paid tribute to him by wishing him “Latcho Drom” — a good journey / safe journey.

A fitting farewell for a filmmaker whose work was so often about journeys, movement, music and freedom.

🤝 Meet other women, build connections and grow together

The programme will be facilitated by an experienced PhD-qualified practitioner, using a trauma-informed approach, creating a safe, welcoming and respectful space where women can participate at their own pace.
