GAPING GOOSE ACOUSTIC JAM SESSION
Where?: The Gaping Goose, 5-6 Slack Bottom Road BD6 3RH
When? : Every Wednesday Night (Christmas Day and televised England World Cup games permitting) 8-11pm.
What? : An authentic “Open Session” for musicians and non-musicians alike. Come along and enjoy, better still join in with, singers and instrument players performing in a variety of musical styles. We’ve even had acoustic rappers! When this session first started, in 1973, it was folk music only but, since the Covid lockdown lifted, it’s become an outlet for all types of music as long as it’s acoustic. No mics, no amps, no backing tracks.
We also encourage people to make it a “proper” jam session with people joining in with each other, even if you just sing along with the melody or shake a tambourine. All levels of expertise are welcome from beginners to professionals to people who just come to listen.
Why? : Luckily, there are plenty of pubs with sound systems, jukeboxes, DJs, Karaokes and Open Mics (and long may it continue) but, here, we encourage songs and tunes that are not found everywhere else – songwriters and tunesmiths are particularly welcome- that being said, you can still turn up and do “Wonderwall”, “Dancing Queen” and “The Wild Rover”. Anything that’s socially acceptable is welcome.
Help keep live music and community singing from dying out and have fun and a few drinks whilst doing it!
