🚨 URGENT CASTING – ACTOR NEEDED 🚨

🎭 A PASSIONATE WOMAN by Kay Mellor

📅 19–24 October 2026

Due to an actor having to withdraw from the production, we urgently need to cast the role of Craze in A Passionate Woman — with just FOUR WEEKS TO GO!

CRAZE
Male playing age: late 25-35

Craze is Betty’s first love — the man she fell passionately in love with as a young woman in 1950s Leeds. Funny, charming, romantic and full of life, he is at the heart of Betty’s memories and an incredibly important role in this funny, moving and very Yorkshire play.

Rehearsals are already underway, so we need someone who is available to join the company immediately and can commit to the remaining rehearsal period and performance week.

This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a brilliant role in one of Kay Mellor’s best-loved plays on the Keighley Playhouse stage.

The boy who made Betty feel as though absolutely anything was possible.

They were young. They were in love. And for a while, the future belonged entirely to them.

But first loves don’t always become forever loves.

Decades later, on the morning of her son Mark’s wedding, memories of Craze come flooding back — and Betty finds herself wondering about the road she didn’t take.

Was he simply the one that got away… or the life that got away with him?

❤️ CELEBRATING KAY MELLOR

Ordinary people. Extraordinary stories.

Few writers captured Yorkshire life quite like Kay Mellor.

From Band of Gold and Fat Friends to The Syndicate, Girlfriends and The Darling Buds of May, her work was filled with characters who felt familiar — people who loved, argued, laughed, struggled and somehow carried on.

And at the heart of so much of her writing were women.

Strong women.
Complicated women.
Funny women.
Women who’d spent years looking after everybody else — and occasionally wondered what happened to them along the way.

Betty in A Passionate Woman is one of those women.

Set firmly in Kay’s beloved Yorkshire, it’s funny, poignant and gloriously human — a story about family, marriage, memories, the one who got away and that dangerous little question…
